How did these so called (bad words) originate? This has been confusing me for ages. Does anyone know?

Where did bad words come from?

This isn't really worth discussing, but anyways... The question is; why are swear/curse words considered bad/foul language?

Where did bad words come from?

They are just socially inculcated into you. From the time you are born, society tells you which things are bad and good. For example, wearing socks with sandals is considered bad. If you had grown up in a society where no words were considered to be taboo, then you wouldn't think anything about saying "shit" or "fuck".

Where did bad words come from?

someone decided certain words should be bad.. i mean, different people consider different words bad. different conotations got tacked onto them throughout the years. Like for instance, queer is now an insult implying someone is gay, but it really just means odd. So now all gay people are weird? LIKE STRAIGHT PEOPLE ARENT!! And ass? originally meant donkey, then changed to a persons bum, and now its a bad word. But bum isnt. or at least not to most people. Some people think butt, stupid, freakin, loser, shut up, etc. are "bad words" and then others dont. Bad words all depend on the conotation behind them, and how people choose to take them. If I called you a happy campin apple grabber would you take offense? I bet you would if I meant for you to even though none of those words are technically offensive.

Censoring cuss words is against the First Amendment in the US. So you can say whatever the fuck you want wherever the fuck you want. Its not like if you say a certain group of sounds bad stuff happens, tabooing words is bullshit. If it offends anyone they can go stick a fucking earplug in and shut the fuck up about it.

Its all the media. I bet along time ago it was just a wored people used to express an emotion. Now they started acting as like its bad to say/use that emotion with the word in front of it. I think its all media bullshit.

You are saying things you have no evidence behind, For a more complete statement id advise being more specific about who and when. Also, You are talking to the thread creator as if he is offended by Foul language, Which could be 100% Bogus, Don't Put words in peoples mouths unless you actually know what they are thinking. Do you know that he would be offended by being called a "happy campin apple grabber"? Please post your opinion on this as i could be completely off :)

Where did bad words come from?

Please excuse me for the assumption that he would be offended by anything I might call him, my mistake. I cant really be more specific about when certain words became bad because its not recorded in time. And I assume different words acquired different conotations at different times in different places. Should I have used specific examples of when people have been offended by words that arent even bad by normal standards? I had a babysitter for 3 years (1995-1998) that would not let me use the words freak, freakin, loser, lame, dumb, stupid, shut up, or anything else even remotely negative. In her opinion those were bad words and her children will grow up thinking those words are bad. I have also had an uncle that taught his children that pussy, asshole, dick, prick, pissed, whore, slut, etc. are not bad words at all and therefore should be used as much as possible. I consider that evidence that people decide what words they will find offensive, hence the example of "happy campin apple grabber". If youd like me to be even more specific I could always go out, test the phrase on someone, and see if they are offended.
Examples of words found offensive that to myself personally are not offensive:
Girl-a popular insult among boys implying weakness
donut or glazed donut-can be used to refer to someone having anal sex or just an idiot
    toaster-racial epithet
    cakesniffer- ???? a versatile insult

I dont think donut is a bad word, but some people consider it offensive. Why? Because people choose bad words. They decide which ones they want to be offended by.

Where did bad words come from?

"Swears" are just another word to describe something else...I forget what they're called, similes or something...A word that means the same as another but different spelling?

Anyhow, words like 'shit' and 'fuck' mean 'poop' and 'sex' basically. But for some reason, someone or something (Probably media) thought that these words were considered bad. Eventually, it spread and now look: Normal words are considered bad.

    ^^ That's just a theory, but whatever.

Where did bad words come from?

Synonyms..not similies. Similies are comparisons using like or as.
