its not that your looking into the past, its just that light takes a long time to travel that distance

for example: if you look at the sun in the sky thats what the sun looked like 8 minutes ago because it takes 8 minutes for the light to get from the sun to earth

you could only see the past if you travel faster than the speed of light

Seems like everyones saying it should works and we can see examples of it in everyday life , the suns rays take 7 seconds to reach us or something like that, and if an asteroid hit Jupiter we would see it 55 seconds later.

So its pretty much proven. 1000 post for the world , thanks for all you're replies and just for being clean and good. Not damn scammers :p

I get what you mean, but it'd be kinda pointless, seeing how even if we we're 10 light years from earth, there wouldn't be any easy way to get that information back to earth.

If we could look millions and billions of years back, we could see all sorts of things, why the dinosaurs died out, what they really looks like, all the species. But again, getting that information back to earth would be... rather impossible..err at least very hard to do.

    teleporting ftw!

Well you are looking in the past because it already happened when you see it... "The past is the portion of the timeline that has already occurred"

My Theory on looking back in time

Wouldnt it take another 10 light years for the light from the earth to reflect into the telescope making it visible to us?

No, he's just making bullshit claims to support the semantics about Jesus Christ or some other imaginary figure. It's better to just leave the fanatics alone.

interesting theory but if you traveled away 10 light years, essentially it would take 10 light years to get there. so you would be looking upon the world as you remembered it.
