Get a better cooling system? Nyko's liquid cooling systems are awesome, my computer doesn't overheat anymore. EDIT: I don't know if there's some cooling hardware for laptops...

Just to let you know, the compressed air is usually nitrous oxide :p

I would suggest that you DO get the compressed air and blow all the dust out
You also get hair and shit stuck in there

    Here is your problem-
The fan has become clogged with stuff, the axle has hair and dust and other small things stuck in it
The amount of power the fan can now deliver has been reduced, causing the heat of the laptop to be less effeciently drained into the surrounding area
The laptop sensors notice that the heat is rising to a certain threshold, and once that threshold is reached, the fan is given more power

The fan is now spinning faster, the motor working harder to spin it

All you need to do is clean it out, then i suggest you get a "fan pad" to keep under it

A fan pad is a small plastic pad, about the size of the base of the laptop, it plugs into the USB port with a cable, and the 2 fans on it drain heat directly ffrom the bottom
This pad also protects your "special place" so you don't get sterille :p

    Hope i helped :)

Thanks that explained a lot. I still don't get how the fan gave way so fast, the laptop is fairly new.

Maybe it's just where you keep it?
Certain places may have more dust and debris than other places,
    Or it's just a shitty fan :p

But you should definitely get the fan pad, regardless of if you clean out the fan
