What does having them rot in jail for life do?

I'm sorry, but there's something called Seperation of Church and State. It ensures that the death penalty will not be legalized on religous grounds.

It lessens the amount of life lost.

They're dead. That's it. Killing their killer for abstract purposes such as dignity accomplishes nothing.

That is a flaw of the established jail system.

    Death Penalty

    *sigh*
I was recently reading a story about a gang who forced a 12 year old kid to rape his mom along with the gang, the murdered them both.

What if that was your mom and brother?
SCUM like that NEED to be taken off the earth.
It needs to happen because it's justice, it scares people away from mass murder. From rape. Etc.

i think life in prison should be the maximum punishment, personaly im christian and its not our call wether someone lives or dies, thats giving to much power to humans who make mistakes over and over again, imagin how many inoscent ppl have already been killed =\

Religion isn't part of this argument. We DO have the power to kill people, think of war, think of the millions of people killed because of that. Think about the war in iraq, think of how many innocent kids, moms, dads, will die. Think about hiroshima....those people didn't deserve to die at all. But someone who forced a kid to rape his mom doesn't deserve to die? Give me a break.

First, "justice" is an abstract. What matters is whether they are capable of harming society again.

Second, most murders and rapes are impulsive acts that are not planned out. If you're going to kill somebody, you're not going to stop and say "Hold on, I could be executed for this."

You don't randomly force a kid to rape his mom. If someones kills 100 people, but is now incapable of doing it, and does not want to again, should just he be released out into society?

Of course. There would be no point in keeping them in jail. Obviously, you would have to prove that they couldn't do it again, as most courts won't take somebody's word for it...

What would said punishment accomplish? If they cannot do it again, and are truly sorry, isn't that enough? Or do you simply wish to fulfill the petty human sense of revenge?

    You win............

    :(

But. Keeping them in jail does do something. It deters crime from happening.

IF Bob is a danger to others even while imprisoned, the death penalty suits him.

    But most crime is impulsive.

Also, many people would rather die than sit in jail for the rest of their life.

    What about solitary confinement?

exactly so we can let live and see there family and ppl who want to come and visit and allow him to make peacew with himself his victims/victims family ect, if he doesnt want to do that then he spends the rest of his miserable life in jail angry, either way they cant commit a crime and theyre locked up

I agree, god decides when its our time to go and not humans, i guess most peoples decisions will be bassed on their beliefs.

I disagree. How can you place life in something that hasn't even been remotely proven? That would be like trusting a Pedofile to look after your kid, you wouldn't do it.

Secondly matters of life and death are not based on beliefs. They're based on factual proof. Personally I don't think human life should be placed in other humans hands but that doesn't mean it should be up to the main character of the oldest story tale.
