New graphics card - EVGA GTX 1070 FTW [2088mhz core/4554mhz memory]

My MSI GTX 680 Lightning fried so I ordered a new card - The EVGA GTX 1070 FTW edition



After overclocking it I was able to get it running stable @ 2088mhz / 4554mhz.
Didn't get lucky and get an amazing card, but it's pretty good anyway haha

That card looks so sick. I was actually planning on getting a 1070 but I have a freesync monitor and amd hasnt released anything in a while besides the 480

 

I wouldn't recommend overclocking the card, let it automatically handle that

I got a MSI 1070 SeaHawk not too long ago. It's a beast.

 

Why not the 1080? You've always been the type to have the best of the best out there.

As for me, waiting for the GTX 1080 Ti myself.

 

Not sure about n4n0, but I could have bought the 1080 as well but chose not to because the 1070 is more than enough for max settings 1080p gaming (my monitor is a benq xl2420z 144 hz 24 inch monitor and I don't plan on upgrading it any soon)

 

Because the 1070 was free.

 

Nice buy. It looks awesome. I'm content with my GTX 1060. I've spent to much on graphics cards in the last 5 years.

I've decided to return the card after a pal informed me that the EVGA ACX 3.0 cards have an issue where the VRMs overheat and explode, some people have even reported that their cards have set on fire. EVGA GTX 1080s and 1070s allegedly exploding due to improper VRM cooling - ExtremeTech

Going to order the Asus ROG Strix OC 1070 soon, I'm prob going to post a build pic when it arrives

 

Strix cards are notorious for sagging/warping. Especially the 3 fan versions. I'd reconsider or plan to find a way to support it if you're dead set on a strix

 

I'll buy a gpu brace then, thanks for bringing that up.

This one should be compatible. The other one I was looking at (puget systems gpu brace) seems to not work with strix cards.

Edit: I usually just stick with evga but this time around I'm going to use an asus card since I don't want my card to blow up in my case

 

There's also MSI you can consider, that's what I'm using. I normally stick to EVGA as well, but the MSI GTX 1070 SeaHawk was a gift, so that's why I went with MSI this time around. Very strong card, would recommend, 10/10

 

I bought the MSI 680 Lightning 3+ years ago for $600, but it ended up dying a few months after the warranty ran out. Because it was a premium card and it costed much more than other 680s, I expected it to at least last longer than my old EVGA 560 which lasted over 5 years. After contacting them about it they pretty much told me there's nothing they can do about it, so I've decided to not buy their products anymore since I kinda feel as if they've cheated me out of $600.

 

The Asus Strix oc 1070 finally came today but it had artifacting/screen flickering so I have to return it :|

Luckily amazon is going to pay for the shipping label and send out a replacement with same day shipping so I should have the card soon. If the asus card comes defective again I'm probably just going to get a zotac one.
