Segregated Sunday

A story before the burning question =)

I am sitting in my church. The night before I had been out for a while, so I was not paying attention, rather I was just pondering and looking at my girl from across the pew. After a few minutes of uselessness, I started looking around my whole church. All of my church is black. But last sunday, I saw a white couple who came to praise and worship with us. I do not know why, but for a split second I was taken back. Taken back because of the irregularity of the situation. WHY. Why is Sunday the MOST segregated day of the week? Why, for even that split second, was I taken back in the least bit? I know I really do not have any problem with white people personally.

Was it because of society? Probably, but what in society or in our religion causes us to become so seperated? Don't you think Jesus would want us all to worship and glorify him together??
I know alot of you all are religious in one way or the other. Share your similar experiences and thoughts on the subject.

I have no idea, it does suck because it makes it feel like if color is all that matters

at my church, it's the other way around, probably mainly cause it's a roman catholic church. I'm black, and like my family hangs out with the other black people in our church. after church, i might talk to my friends for a little bit.

its weird, we aren't really segregated, but you can tell their's tension whenever we talk.

just how it is, history made the world a tragedy.

 

Never thought of that before... I just realized the different races go to different churches and most churches aren't combined for races. So, I'm guessing religion separates society as a whole and the races. Interesting... I never thought of this before.

 

It is not good that the chruches are segregated even after the whole civil rights movement of the 60's but it may be worse if you forced them to come together creating tensions on the lines of racial differences

 

I can't really say that has happened to me. In my church there are a lot less black people then there are white people, but still 10-20 African Americans come to join us each sunday. I don't think it should matter to anyone who comes to worship at a church, as long as they are willing to pray to God.

Also, I think people inside the church (like me and you) don't even know we are doing it, but in my church African-Americans usually sit in a group together, though no one makes them. It's not really segregation as it is, people wanting to be with there own race.

 

Idk, My church is sorta like that, but there are a few other races there. I think the main reason is that if you notice they are not only diffrent colors in there but its like a diffrent style of preahing? Not sure I mean I noticed it a few times, but I have no problem with any one coming in it just happens that way.

My church isn't segregated at all, plenty of people of each continent come to pray here and I or anybody in the my church doesn't seem to have a problem with that.
What's the point of segregation when the message of God is for all people of all races?

i dont really have a point of view on your question, but i have noticed that in mainly white churches the pic of jesus show him as white. But in mainly black churches jesus is portrayed as black?

I bought a painting in which Jesus is portrayed as black in a church bookstore. I'm not sure if that's sacrilegious but I gave it to my friend for his birthday. ;]

There isn't a African American member in my ward, but when they visit I'm never shocked.. I guess the reason you could say Sunday is the most segregated day of the week is because different ethnicities were raised in different parts of the world so they pass their religion on to their children who eventually spread throughout the world..
