[Food] Whataburger - Chicken Strips + Breakfast Taquito Review

I'll add the images soon. For now, just look at this wall of text.

I went to review a new item at BK (they all suck here) but they had no meat (again) so I went to Whataburger to get some items I used to get back in the 1950's. Or something.

Chicken Strips Price Paid: $3.99 for 3 strippers (I also got a drink apparently).



I never had the gravy when I was a kid, so I decided to use that, even though I paid for the bbq sauce.

The gravy had a very light flavor to it, but it was nice and warm (hotter than the chicken strips) so that was a plus. The strips were much smaller than I remember, but isn't everything? The strips were mostly breading, and they weren't even completely filled with chicken.

Nostalgia is sometimes best left as such. Raising Canes does this 100x better, as do some other chicken strips I've had recently. It sort of tastes like a freezer-aisle chicken, but a bit better because it is fried rather than baked.

High 3/5. The taste just wasn't there, and I've had much better chicken strips at various other places. Gravy has a light flavor and doesn't really add much, but it does add something. Too bready. Small. Etc.

I wouldn't buy this again.

Taquito with Bacon, Egg, Cheese: $2.59



The taste is a bit basic, but good. The bacon wasn't crispy, and the size was not proportional to the price (you can get a bfast taco of the same size at Taco Cabana for half this, for instance).

Does it match up to local taco trucks that plague Texas like a fantastic disease? Not even close. But for those of you not blessed with taco trucks, these are a good fast-food alternative.

They're certainly the best fast-food breakfast tacos, next in line being the aforementioned Taco Cabana tacos (which has more options for sauces). Whataburger's taquito goes well with the picante sauce they provide, so that's a plus.

My tacos had a fishy, shrimpy smell to them and that was really off-putting. I don't know why this happened, but it did.

Low 4/5. Shrimp smell is a one-time thing. Price not worth it for any of these two items. Still good, but not nearly good enough. Haven't had a 99-cent taquito day in ages (I think?)

I would buy this again on very rare whims, or on a sale day if they do that anymore.

Really, really does. The shrimp smell was wtf. Honestly idk ghetto locations...

 

Usually much better on all fronts, but still the same size. It's good for fast food.

I don't really know what makes country gravy like that, so I looked up a recipe and it said milk, flour, oil or butter, salt and pepper, and that seems to be the same throughout. So it is basically another layer of buttermilk.

TIL country gravy.

back in my day id get a 3 piece chicken and bbq sauce for 75 cents

Wtf do you people have tastebuds? Do you actually eat the chicken from KFC?

 

What? A lotttt of people get breakfast at these places. For some reason or another, people love McDonald's breakfast so much that they serve it all day. I don't see what's so special, but it is better than their regular menu. Also I probably just don't like the taste of country gravy.. Popeyes / Church's / KFC has good gravy. Pollo Tropical does NOT.

And no I don't personally don't like KFC - I prefer other chicken joints. KFC isn't my style of fried chicken.
