Download Speed

So I set up new internet at my new place with a new IP and shit.

I originally got 25mbps internet speeds and I was running at ~21 on a download test.

For $10/month I upgraded to 75, but now my download speeds only show ~31.

Am I really only getting ~31 or is this because I'm not using so much of my internet at once. The network was completely quiet, aside from the test, at the time of the test.

 

Are you plugged in? Could be a few things but it's most likely either a bad signal, or your company spewing the shit "Oh the package is actually 'up to 75 mbps'" and not a guaranteed speed.

 

I'm getting the same whether plugged in or over WIFI

 

I had a similar issue with Time Warner at my old apartment two years ago. I have no idea if it was the wiring or that my area was under "heavy use" from my neighbors. Was paying for 50 down and was getting a max of ~17 down plugged in. Ended up having to switch to ATT which luckily solved our problems.

At the very least call the tech out and they can test out the connections and make sure everything is 100% on their end.

 

If it's cable it could be your building has old outdated wiring. That was the case I had a couple of years ago. If it comes down to it, a tech will have the stuff needed to check that.

 

Does it not depend how far away from the main exchange you are depending on the speed you can get?
