Now, you don't have to consider this long distance relationship a boyfriend/girlfriend situation, but you should still keep in contact with her in some way because it will give you some comfort. It is good that you don't like a long distance relationship, because in my experience they always turn out poorly, so it would be best to avoid it.

Life sucks to be honest, but there are plenty of girls that you will meet, and you'll get over her even if you don't think that's possible right now. The chances of actually being able to go back to her are a little grim, and sound more like the plot of a Hollywood romance, so I wouldn't set your life to plan for that, but I would still keep in contact with her.
