The Newest Edition to the Forums... *Read Read Read*

To start us off, I would like to bring a couple of definitions into play. The defined words shall be; Intelligence, Idiot, Mob, IQ, and Brain.

The reason I brought these words to your attention is to describe the overall mentality of "Something for All". The basic mob mentality of "Something for All"'s debate area has created a major problem, and many debates and intellectual discussion come up short because of idiots.


I would like to draw your attention to an article found at http://people.howstuffworks.com/question455.htm:

Knowing that, we can easily determine that a lack of intelligence plagues the "Something for All" forum, and many other areas of http://sythe.org/index.php. There is not much that can be done about this, as it is an open forum for cheating in a game. However, many of us simply come here for the community aspect, and to discuss with others who have a brain. This bring me to the suggestion, which has actually been suggested before:

A private "Intellectual Discussion" forum which is INVITE ONLY. Yes, this has been suggested many times before, but the depth that this individual suggestion will go, I am positive that I can persuade you to create said forum.

Firstly, let us go over the disadvantages of having this forum, and why it may be declined. I do not deny that there are some:

Users like to feel important, especially Sythe.org users. They will take any thing they can get that makes them stand out more than their piers. Should a private forum be created for intelligent discussion, people will repeatedly be posting, asking to be invited, or bugging their friends who have power to invite them. This would create more chaos than there already is, and more work for the staff.

There are plenty of other sections of the forum, and if you don't like someone's post, just click the (-) button. More forums are not needed. There's already Something for All. Use that.

Sythe.org staff already has too much on their plates. If you ask them to make a private forum, it may be denied because of the constant busy state they are in.




Now, To rebuttal and outweigh each of those:

Users should feel important if they make it into the intelligent discussion forum. It makes them stand out, and shows that they were worthy of their invite. The forum being private will make users either mad, or excited. If they really want in, their posts will start becomming that of wit instead of stupidity, and they will actually put thought into what they say. Those who want in just cause they want in are just as bad as the [getting proof] middlemen that whine about how hard it is to get in. It seperates intelligence from stupidity. That can be seen as bad, but if you seperate intelligence from stupidity, and eliminate the afore mentioned, you're simply left with intelligence. Those who are seen fit will easily get in, those who struggle can remain posting with the rest. It's a way to challenge the users to increase their intellectual capacity.

Hiding a post does not work, it is the fact that something was posted. For instance, say I plan out a very well thought out discussion and supporting facts on why door handles are bad for the enviroment. If my point holds solid evidence and proof, then it is of good quality. However, if someone then replies to me with "uR S700pId" then that completely ruins the mood. Yes, they will be reported for spamming, but the post still remains, and the debate was interrupted. If a private forum is created, then you will not have to worry about these posts, as you can garuntee those who post that are out immediately and their posts will be deleted.
Furthermore, if say Shinoda posted one of his Challenges that test your knowledge, and endurance , you can be sure that his thread will remain on the front page for the simple fact that it challenges the brain. Anyone with a high I.Q. loves a good match . Right now, these good posts, and debates go to waste because there is no private forum for them. 'Something for All' does not eliminate moronic debates, ideas, or unsupported facts. If someone can't debate something in the private forums, or cannot work up to it, you can be sure that they won't post, for they would automatically be kicked. This once again pushes the users to strive for a higher level of intellectual achievement.

Sythe.org staff is frequently busy, yes, however, a private invite only section would greatly reduce the amount of idiotic posts and threads created, thus making the work load lighter on everyone. A private forum for Intellectual Discussion would give everyone a chance to really back their claims without fear of being flamed, spammed, annoyed, or unchallenged. Although other things may need to come before, a private forum for Intellectual Discussion is long overdue. I ask that it is not denied simply because, but carefully thought over, and discussed.




There are many ways that this can work, and here are simply a few:

The forums be invite only, meaning, you would not be allowed to ask, but only invited by a superior member of the private forums. Moderators would be appointed to the forums to assure it remains intellectual and those who deserve in are in, and those who should be gone are out. Invites would first be ran through a moderator of the forum, as normal users can recommend an invite for their friends. A full background check on those who are invited is needed, to see how they have acted prior to their recommendation for an invite. Invites are rejectable, a PM would be sent to the user, asking if they would like to join, they would reply with either yes or no, and depending on that, the permissions would be changed. The only obvious place for it to go, would be above "Something for All".

Another way it could work is though applications. The user desiring to enter would be given an I.Q. test by a surperior member. The I.Q. test will change time to time, but all superior members must know of them, to assure that corruption does not occur against those who are not wanted in. After passing an I.Q. test, the user would then have his/her permissions changed. Should the user fail, then they would not be allowed to try again for at least another week - month. This ensures that people are not constantly trying to join. I.Q. tests will be thought out thoroughly before administered as to be sure ranges on the scale are properly evened out.



Should anything else need be supplied, or you have any questions, simply ask, and the best shall be done to answer them. I really would like to see a private Intelligent Discussion forum, for I think it could greatly benefit Sythe and it's users.

Meh, something for all is like my second home, and I think a discussion forum that doesn't let in the leetspeaking only-here-to-get-my-post-count-up-so-I-can-scam-in-the-black-market riff-raff would probably make me reach orgasm on the spot.
