Bitcoin/Blockchain Help

Hey guys, I recently sold some gold for Bitcoin.

After he sent me the BTC, I looked it up on blockchain.info and found the transaction there, so I went ahead and delivered the gold.

After 2 hours of waiting, the transaction is still pending, but only pending on my Bitcoin wallet. The transaction is no longer in the blockchain so now I am getting sketched out.

No, I did not wait for any confirmations, as I didn't think it was necessary.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? The transaction is still pending in my wallet. I haven't had to wait any longer than 30 minutes for a delivery of Bitcoin, so this is different. I'm mainly just wondering if I was scammed (he somehow reversed his bitcoin transaction?)

 

Not Possible as far as im aware. sometimes btc does take awhile to get confirmed , i've had a 45min delay once and was extremely paranoid. Hopefully all is well

 

If it's gone from the blockchain, you are not going to receive the bitcoin. You just got double spent, make sure you wait for 1 confirmation on your trades.

Always make sure you wait for 1 confirmation, no matter how unnecessary you think it is. Double spends do happen.

 

So there's zero chance of receiving the bitcoin then? I'm not really familiar with double spending etc.

But i've read that one of the transactions will go through and the other one won't. Is there a slight possibility that I can actually receive my money? Or is it a big fat ZERO?

There is no chance you're getting it. If it isn't on the blockchain, it was sent to the other address. Someone else has been double spent recently as well, I'd guess it's the same person.

Looks like he traded with me first, then traded with you - still pending after 8 hours

 

Its possible the sender didn't include any fee with the transaction, in that case it could take hours/days for it to go through.

 

did your BTC Wallet balances update and then subtract or? @SkythE @Dieze

He scammed me as well. The transaction disappeared after 48 hours. He just admitted to me on Skype he did it.

Which is exactly why waiting for 1 confirm is necessary to prevent double spending ^_^. With 1 conf, you're guaranteed that money isn't going elsewhere first.

 

I've been selling gold for nearly a year now but never had this happen to me lol. At least I'm aware now. ;/

 

Yeah I haven't seen it happen until recently, but it's happened to at least 3-4 different people now. People should always wait for confirms.
