I am not going to argue for rap, for even I realise that it doesn't not have any music quality at all. However, for some strange reason I love listening to it... and in this world if you can sell records, that is really all that matters.

However, I will argue for hip hop. And what I mean by hip hop is artists like Nas, Kanye West, The Game, Lupe Fiasco, NWA, Immortal Technique, etc. I challenge everyone who thinks that hip hop does not have musical quality to listen to any of their songs. These artists bring meaning to their rhymes. There is nothing wrong with a mindless dance song once in a while, but for me at least... songs like "Fergalicious" get old after a while. Listen to a few of these artists, and then make your judgement on hip hop.

And to cstrike, I am not even going to debate my intellegence over an internet thread. All i have to say is UVA c/o 2011. Nice edited post by the way, I didn't see it until now. I sometimes compare metal to rap in my head. Both, to me, get you really "hype" and full of energy. You have to at least respect the singer in both genres, for most of us can not rap or scream at the top of our lungs for three minutes straight.
I play Guitar Hero II sometimes. I have a newfound respect for the guitar. For anyone who has every played the song "Jessica" on a guitar, I worhip you (sort of). That song is hard as helllll, no doubt.

I think that everyone may not like all genres of music, but I think everyone can at least respect the artist behind the sound. Rap makes money, they must be doing something right.

 

Immortal Technique is where it's at. He doesn't rap about bullshit like killing for no reason. If you listen to Dance With The Devil, it talks about a young boy trying to be a hardcore thug, etc. But all his songs send a message and that's don't try to be something your not. He mostly raps about the government though... saying how the world is a fucked up place and shit, but all his points are true.
