    Overcrowded Hospitals?

Rencently a man has passed away in the gold coasthospital after being turned down by a NSW hospital here is the story

THE premiers of NSW and Queensland have vowed to get to the bottom of the case of a man who died of a heart attack at a Gold Coast hospital after being turned away from a closer hospital in NSW.
The 48-year-old NSW man died yesterday after a 47-minute ambulance trip from Currumbin in Queensland to the Gold Coast Hospital at Southport.

The Queensland paramedics who picked him up initially wanted to take him to the nearest hospital, 8km away at Tweed Heads in NSW.

they were told Tweed Heads Hospital could not cope so they took the patient to the Gold Coast Hospital across the border, 22km away.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it took 47 minutes from the time the man was first seen by paramedics to when they delivered him to the hospital, where he died of a cardiac arrest shortly after his arrival.

"We contacted the Tweed hospital, the closest most appropriate facility, and they advised that they were on redirection and couldn't accept the patient," the spokeswoman said yesterday.

NSW Premier Morris Iemma today expressed his condolences to the man's family, saying a full investigation had begun to get to the bottom of the matter.

"There are conflicting accounts as to what exactly did happen," Mr Iemma said.

"I'm advised that Tweed is the nearest hospital but there is some issue as to whether it was the Gold Coast hospital because the ambulance service is a Queensland ambulance service."

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie said the state's hospitals did not refuse access to patients whose lives were in danger.

"Patients who are in a life-threatening position are not rejected," Mr Beattie said on ABC radio.

NSW North Coast Area Health Service spokesman Robin Osborne said an investigation into the death had begun.

    Overcrowded Hospitals?

My mom works in a hospital, and they just built a new one.
If the hospitals get overcrowded, they close one or two down, and make a bigger one. Or, stop leaving people on life support so they can be vegetables for 30 years before death.

    Overcrowded Hospitals?

Great article. Personally, I partially agree with T4ank. I believe that the "vegetables" and people who are not in critical care need to be moved to another location so that if the instance comes up where someone is on the verge of life and death enters the hospital... they can at least have the availability to treat the patient.

I agree with t4ank fully. These people who are on life support have no idea what is going on and should just have the plug pulled out. There are people who have a fighting chance to live and recover fully, but they cant because a person is occupying the space who is known that they will be on life support for the rest of their lives....
