How do I know if a ID is fake or not?

The name on their ID generally doesn't match the name on the paypal account/whatever they're using to pay you, the name they go by, the name associated with their email address/contact information/etc. I'm sure there are methods people use to cover up all of what i've listed and i'm sure there's other ways to detect them that users with successful websites are aware of, may want to PM them or tag them because i'm not sure how often they check this section.

 

Photos could be low quality, And commonly people will say they've scanned it but maybe as a security measure you could say
Could you put your name on a piece of paper with the words "Your Gold Site Here" to make sure this is you.

You can ask him to take a screenshot of the id with his face on with your skype conversation in the background

Bogla asked me for ID once, and even pic with name on credit card. Might be something to verify?

 

Compare the names, google how the ID-card from the specific country should look like, make sure he doesn't black out anything (only thing he can black out is his SSN).

 

If you're asking for ID in order to prevent chargebacks on PP, just know that having the picture of their ID matching their PP information doesn't do too much for you, from what I understand. PayPal tends to favor the buyer in cases of disputes, and I don't think they even look at it, I think it's just automated and just goes to the buyer as long as certain criteria are met. Always be careful when selling with PP and if possible try to only sell to trusted members of Sythe.

Also I'd like to say the above is only what I've heard from other people, I don't have much experience myself as I've never experienced a chargeback (since I only allow PP for trusted users)

It's quite tough to tell over the internet, but a few things you can do is the following.

Make sure the name and address on the paypal/credit card matches that of the ID.
Save the ID and use google image search to ensure there isn't another ID with the same information/picture with different names on the internet.
Google search other IDs that are from the same country as the person and compare them, be sure to include the date that the ID was issued.
Screenshot the image on the ID and google image search that image.
Make sure you triple check the seal and security measures on the ID which mostly every government issued ID will have.

Your best indicator is the picture. A picture can make or break a fake ID so scrutinize it. Specifically, look for shadows. There will NOT be shadows in an actual ID picture.

Outside of that, your best bet is a close comparison via a bar book. Be on the lookout for: Florida, Illinois, NY, Texas, CA, and NC licenses because they are often faked.
