Actually no. Emo, emo-violence, screamo, etc all has its roots in punk rock. Emo bands like Jawbreaker, Rites of Spring, etc, and screamo bands like Ampere can all be considered punk rock. However, yes, what some consider to be emo like Hawthorn Heights, etc is really just cheesy pop-rock. And hardxcore was being sarcastic (if it already wasn't obvious), and your list of "FTW" bands is horrible and mediocre. That is all.

Btw, although metal and punk are two separate genres they both share similar qualities (Motorhead being my greatest example of this), and there are many genres which merge the two (crust, grind, pv, crossover, etc). So, in a sense you are correct, but then again you are not.

No, that's one element of the genre that sucks.
Plus, chances are I have a bigger span of musical taste than anyone who even visits these boards. Metal genre isn't the only genre which presents good riffs, listen to some alternative rock, reggae, blues, funk, hard rock, it's all good riffs.
With the exception of a few punk bands however, like Dead Kennedy's, otherwise newer punk is shit for guitar riffs.
