Dota 2 gave rise to the popular online anime game 'league of legends', and a lot of references are found within league, "rylais crystal scepter' (Rylai is a frost mage in Dota) and baron nashoR (Roshan backwards, which is the dota equivalent raid boss) as well as Guinsoo rage blade, guinsoo being one of the founders of the WC3 mod.

Dota 2 has more than 12 million unique active players, which is higher than world of warcraft had at its peak.

Valve just hosted The International 6, with the highest prize pool in esports gaming existence, the pot being $20.7 million USD, however this was distributed amongst finalists (i.e. first place team won $9 million, 2nd place won $1.5 million, ect)

In fact, the dota pool for this year alone would be higher than every single League tournament payout or LCS payout for the next 5 years of the dying game.

I'm not sure why dota doesnt have its own section here, and yet space minecraft was given one instantly, especially considering dota 2 has a large hat marketplace similar to cs go which would promote trading on this site.

The Dota 2 International was amazing. 8 days of outstanding games being played, and only 4 heroes of the total 112 not being picked throughout the entire tournament (whereas in league the forced meta means you only see the same 20 heroes game in and game out, yawn) I was in hysterics during the all star game and I loved the commentary, there was very few delays or unprofessionalism and i thoroughly enjoyed this patch. Did anyone else check out TI?

That shit pissed me off as well. Dota 2 has one of the largest online bases currently, yet No Man's Sky - which is going to be dead by September yet gets its own section since there is desperation to bring new users to Sythe.

I never watch too much of the TI because honestly I don't enjoy watching or playing Dota. I must admit though, valve ALWAYS KILLS it year to year. From the community funded prizepool, to the structure of the tournament (double elim), TI's are always well planned and absolutely stunning.

Riot has been doing pretty well themselves, but they should take some notes on how to run a "world championship".

they're too professional about their tournaments - it doesn't feel like a community whenever they do 'em. I get tournaments are about promotion and money, but it feels like its only about money sometimes lol. Also LoL games are so predictable as well.

Ehh at the last major international League event (MSI) teams were coming back from 15k+ gold deficits so I wouldn't go as far as to call them predictable.

I never really liked the whole "invitational" style to the tournament as well but honestly I don't know how else you could do it without having established leagues internationally.
