Medicine: Threat To Humanity?

A friend and I had an interesting discussion the other day. We proposed that children who will die of a naturally occurring disease should indeed die. Should child contract strep-throat and the progress to a severe ear-infection which it seems shall progress further and kill the child, should they not be killed? Not to say we should allow the child to die painfully at the hands of the disease itself, but perhaps we should kill them ourselves?

And why not? The strong, those best fit to survive in our ever-evolving universe, will bear stronger, better adapted children. These children will in turn be better adapted to their ENVIRONMENT. As once it was and perhaps should always be....

Now that is the general idea regarding our genetics and environment. Then comes the implications of this idea for those of belief. Our other friend, a Catholic, was somewhat given to the idea of smiting us for the very thought alone of infanticide for medical reasoning. Especially when the implications are not one of mending the body, but repelling invaders the body is ill equipped to defend itself against.

What do you think? I guess we should include deformities and other birth defects in the discussion as well. Why only kill those that become a liability to our species as whole, and not include those born that way?

 

I think humans are evolving slower because of medicine. If we let all of the people in the world that could contract a deadly disease die of it then future generations would be less likely to contract the disease, like survival of the fittest. I dont think this would justify millions of people dying so that humans could become stronger as a species though.

 

I don't think physical defects should be considered for this, but mental defects, that's another story. I think that there should be a certain age where all children without the required amount of intelligence should all be put on an island together, where it will be there problem to survive.

 

Exactly, humans are becoming genetically less intelligent. As, to mention Gene Pools!

if you talking about antibiotics they stop working after so long. your body becomes immune to them. I don't see anything wrong with it. You can say just let them die but what if you were one of those kids who was really sick?

 

i dont think its fair to kill people because of this but we are definately slowing down human evolution

 

If what you are trying to say is what I think..

I don't think anyone deserves to die because of an illness, unless requested. Let's say you are really ill, and you are going to live, but not really "live". Let's say you are paralyzed and deaf. You have to stay in a bed your whole life. You couldn't talk. That life isn't worth living. I agree in some conditions, on the other hand I don't agree under certain other circumstances

Except for the fact that half the time it's our doings that cause someone to get sick in the first place. Say someone gets Mercury poisoning, they caught it because of humans, so why not take medicine for it. If we cause a disease what's wrong with us stopping it.

If you get sick how are you supposed to survive? Everyone gets sick.

medicine is probably a threat to humanity , only because...
there are more and more disease's wildy contracted threwout each new generation... i meen , in our grandparents generation even.. there was MUCH less death of cancer , aids , flu related illness... list goes on and on.
antibiotics are being prescribes WAY to much , they are basically a god-sent drug... used for MANY different things...but the list of things able to be " cured " by anti-biotics gets smaller and smaller..due to the fact that people are basically becoming immune to its effects , if i go to the doctor ..which i rarely do.. i try to avoid anti-biotics..because , in the rare case..on day .. i get an infection in the brain ( actually very common ) the ONLY treatment is antibiotics...but you basically have had to had none in your system ..for them to work.
immunity to drugs is exactly the opposite of there intention.. they actually are used to make your body immune to disease..which actually..is the case , in both ways. medicine is to over prescribed these days... what ever happend to some good old bedrest for the sick... get some fresh air , get plenty of sleep.. eat some chicken noodle soup for god sakes , dont pump yourself full of shit that the doctors usally only prescribe to line there pockets...i could go ON AND ON...but my fingers are sore...
Medicine IS a thread to humanity... simple as that
