Application for SFA mod

When we remove the users that just posted one time during the month the average post count per user is rather different:

I would posit that this is because in 2010 we had a huge influx of market users from free trade returning and these users were posting in other forums to try to get post count. I do not yet collect information on if users are banned or not so I am unable to really explore this idea further at this time.

But in regards to attempting to reinvigorate the forum it is clear that we need to not make the users that are already posting post more, as they are already posting on average more than they used to, but instead attract more people in total to post in the SFA forum.

So if the administration finds it acceptable for me to be the SFA moderator this is likely where I will begin.

 

@SuF if this is real I support it. You're one of the only people I've disagreed with on some points that doesn't get all bitchy and shit you actually genuinely have a good thought process + you articulate that well in the SFA even though I don't actively participate.

I just want to be able to moderate the one forum. I don't give half a shit about the rank or mod logs or the staff lounge or anything else. I just want to be able to actually enforce high quaility posts with a good attitude in the subforum that I really like.

 

With all the wild stuff that's been going on I doubt that's out of the question

Just report all the other crap that is shit-post worthy.
Just keep asking for mods to keep a close eye.
If you become mod to moderate one section they'll expect you to do everything else that comes with being the mod.

 

As I've said before not all moderators are the same. Reporting posts is tedious and makes everything take forever and it's a crapshoot which moderator will solve the issue which means that the moderation that happens is going to also be a crapshoot. The SFA requires high amounts of good moderation for it to be successful and that means moderating in a different way than other sections. Since it needs more heavy handed moderation we have to be extra careful to be as fair and consistent as possible which simply is not possible when you have a dozen or more different moderators with different levels of skill and different moderation styles. A small number of people need to be dedicated to the section and be the face of the section so that people have a place to turn to if they feel like the heavy moderation has gone too far or something is wrong. As the moderation becomes more consistent, reliable, and predictable people will better understand what to post there and how to post there without having the moderators come down on them. It will also make the forum more welcoming because the posts will be less mean, less stupid, less spamming, and generally just better. From my quick glance at the staff positions log we had 3 or 4 dedicated General Discussion mods (one SFA mod had just been promoted to global) and I had just been promoted to global and between all of us we moderated the SFA section very well. Contrast that with today and we have zero dedicated community mods and the community has turned to shit. Correlation does not prove causation but let's give having a dedicated SFA mod a try and see what effect it has on activity and the quality of the section and then see what to do from there.
