Why are my limewire files conving to .exe?

I have downled limewire, and my files keep getting converted to .exe after about 2 days. I have tried limwire pro and limewire basic. What can I do? (windows VISTA btw)

 

What type of files are you downloading?

 

wel if there program files ofcourse they might do that but if there other files my friend there virus other then that look for updates or it just might be a bug

 

They are all .mp3. they work FINE for about 48 hours, then Itunes can't find the file, and when I go to the folder, they're called something like "Chiodos- baby you wouldn't last a minute on the creek.mp3" and when I click properties, it says the extension is .exe, and the type is "application".

 

Make a copy of the file right after you download it, and move it to a external USB disk. Wait the 48 hours, or until the original converts to .exe and see what the other one does. If it still converts we'll know that it's the file itself, but if it doesn't it's most likely your system doing the changes.

 

that sounds like a virus binding itself to your files converting them into more executable versions of the virus you have

 

Try saving the files to a different place mybe?

Open Limewire --> Tools --> Options --> Now choose a new folder for saving files like make a "My Music" file on your desktop and save there.

yeah seems fishy, maybe it's a virus :S

 

Thanks for all of the help guys, although, if it were a virus hidden in the files, then I would have 200+ viruses now, all from different sources, different people, using up the ram on my computer, despite the fact that I have 27 processes

 

It could be a virus outside of limewire converting all .mp3's to .exe :O
