I suppose I should actually ask... how necessary is SRB? And this is a serious question. Installing plugins and modifying the forum software shouldn't be taken lightly. We need to really gauge how necessary it is (including how often it's used) and then determine if the work involved in accommodating it is worth it.

Well it seems that many people here are in agreement with me that it is a solid idea. The plugin doesnt delete or solt-delete anything, so has a small footprint. It simply adds a hook in the userCP to allow a user to essentially "Deactivate" their account. The plugin moves user into a defined usergroup such as Deactivated and that usergroup is restriced from doing anything at all. You could create a subforum to allow Guests to post and request reactivation.

The reason, in my opinion that SRB is good is because it allows someone like myself, whos been here years, to safely turn off my account and avoid Hacking/Fakes/Scamming etc. It allows for a safe means to come back to the community when you are ready. Fundamentally almost EVERY social media website has this ability and I don't see why Sythe shouldn't have it either.

Again, if you weigh the consequences of all it all then it's a pretty clear choice. Example: A veteran sythe member is more likely to be able to do much larger trades on the market (This is just from my experience of watching the website grow). Now if said member is hacked because they have been away (Even if the posted a farewell, because im pretty sure most members dont check that) and their Sythe account scams someone for 100,200,300+ dollars it then becomes a huge issue. This plugin mitigates situations like that from ever happening.

I suppose but I tend to believe:

    1. You should be responsible for your own account and "hacking" is nonsense unless you use a stupid password or get your PC infected.

    2. Fakes aren't your problem since it's whatever idiot falls for its fault. If users are dumb and don't get a PM from YOUR ACCOUNT and trade with a fake then it's their fault, not yours.

    3. As for scamming, see above.

Curious what people besides you think... surely there are other opinions out there.

Matthew read this last few pages of THIS thread. You can see what other people think of this idea. They think it would be great to have.

I'm sorry but the pro's outweigh the cons. SRB is necessary in itself for when people wish to deactivate for what ever reason they have. Whether it be because they feel a security that there wont be a chance of hackings, or fakes, or scams. or other personal reasons that they just feel they don't wish their account to be available to them when they're trying to not access their account.

One example I can give you Matthew, when I wanted to go an study for my exams, I requested a SRB because I wanted to ensure I had that self-control and could stop myself from visiting the forums when I had other important things to do. Sometimes it's necessary for us users to have that SRB ideally in place for such scenarios. I guess I can also use Roary as an example, lately when he SRB'd as things got too much IRL, etc People can focus on Irl and know that their account in SRB'd and that way people who miss them, or wonder where that person is, will know exactly why or that they are SRB'd.

I hope I'm making sense it is 3:40am.

In addition to that, I just realised Fb has the deactivation plugin right, I totally understand what this plug in. I would find it much easier if I ever needed to SRB again, to have a simplistic way to do so, rather then make threads randomly all over the place and have staff do extra duties.

Again that's why Wortels suggestion of a specific section or (sticky) to have people post specifically in to get SRB would be equally beneficial, at the lesser extent of you guys having to put effort into implementing another plugin.

This is a prime example of why this plugin would be extremely effective. @Matthew, if you think back to how many veterans here have had their account hacked and someone ended up getting scammed then I am sure you would see the pertinence of this feature.

I agree that people are responsible for their accounts but at the same time, if you can give the end user tools to be able to cover their own asses and make it easier, then all the better.

By asking us to disable your account, you're illustrating you don't have self control. If you had self control, you would be able to stay away from Sythe without us having to ban you.

Either way Matt, SRB's have been proven again and again to be beneficial to the site as a whole. This plugin reduces the workload of staff by automating the process and therefor making everyone's lives easier. This suggestion really is a no-brainer.

Mhm sorry, I mean the SRB would create control... of one self. Again it's 4am.. Im a little confused.

If you think that a plugin is too much work,

"Again that's why Wortels suggestion of a specific section or (sticky) to have people post specifically within to get SRB would be equally beneficial, at the lesser extent of you guys having to put effort into implementing another plugin."
