Logo Design

Thoughts on this please, something about it seems slightly off but it's a stepping stone for a project of mine.

Could you perhaps give more info as to how and what the logo would be used for? With information like that we could really give in depth cnc and share our thoughts

 

It's for a school project that I'm working on, but I also want to make this look as professional as possible to add to my portfolio. The idea being the logo is that it will be used on a mock-up for a weather app, and the drip, or drop will represent that. (Also not sure what to call it, drip or drop.

 

Mobile app?

 

Yeah, it's my second mobile app design this year. I'm just doing the design, I wouldn't have a clue how to code

 

I think its standard protocol to not include the name in the app icon (at least for iOS). I develop for both iOS and Android and I have never really seen (at least a top app) that puts their app name in with the image on the icon. It is kind of tacky since the app name is also displayed right under the icon on the phone, so it is kind of repetitive if you try to squeeze it in the icon too. Keep in mind that iOS cannot have a transparent background unlike Android. I think having just your image (the tear drop) would make a nice app icon assuming it is an original design and not clip art. If you want to keep the text in you should try reducing the height of as a whole. If someone wanted to use this same logo on a website in their top navigation bar, it would stretch their navigation bar height which would make it look kind of awkward. Personally I prefer having the text to the side of image because of this.

 

Thank you very much for your feedback.I wasn't going to include the text in the actual icon itself but I was planning on putting it somewhere on the app so thanks for the heads up. I think I might scratch the text now and just display the icon.

 

Yeah I think it would make a good splash screen the way it is with the text.

 

It's too simple. I'm nor saying that's a bad thing, I love simplicity. Just mentioning it because there isn't much to criticise/give advice on.

 

The simplicity works, but I feel the simplicity needs to show a bit more personality where possible.
The 'drip' text, if this going to be an app logo, I personally think it could work centered inside the droplet basically the same color/cutout as the bottom left of the water drop
. As well as vertically lengthening the icon (NOT TOO MUCH) to give it more of a realistic 'drip' feel.
