    Beginners Guide to VB6.

This is a tut for if you have NEVER opened VB before. I made it for the newbs :)

I can't find a VB guide on sythe that explains everything simply so i decided to follow in Whocares357's footsteps and make a pretty long VB beginners tutorial. Im only a beginner myself so don't abuse me if i get something wrong =/ well...I hope you enjoy it :)

    Contents:

    Setup

    Design
    -- Design Properties
    ---- Caption
    ---- Text Options
    -- Forms
    ---- Form Size
    ---- Form Colour
    ---- Form Layout
    ------ Text Box
    ------ Label
    Menu Editor
    Simply Messagebox Tut
    If Statements
    Variables

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Where to start....

    Setup:

VB6 is simple to set up, when you click open it gives you a selection of things that you can make. (see below)

For what we are going to be doing, click "Standard EXE".

When you click standard exe VB6 will automatically set its self up and give you a starting form (form 1). (See Below)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Design:

VB6 design, once again is simple to do. The main designing happens in a little place called "Properties". This is located on the right hand side of VB as shown below.

In this little box is all you need to use to make simple programs look nice.

    --- Caption

Lets start with the caption. The caption is what form1 will say at the top of. (see below)

To change this caption simply go across to the properties box and scroll down the list untill you find a little box called "Caption". (See Below)

    --- Text Options.

To alter the text its just like in word or any other MS program. You click something and it brings up a list of options. The list of options is hidden inside one little box in the properties section called "Font". Click on the box next to font and then on the little button that looks like this: [IMG]. Once you have clicked that button a box will appear with a list of text options that you may want to alter. (See Below)

Just simply click the options that you want and then click "Ok".

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Forms:

This is a form: (Also Shown Above)

Think of it as..lets say a peice of paper. You can alter a peice of paper to make it look however you want, a form is also like this. You can alter the size, colour and the layout (more but i don't know how) :p

    --- Form Size:

You can have a form any size you want depending on how big you want your program. To change the form size simply hover your mouse over one of the white squares untill it shows a 2-headded arrow. Simply click and hold your left mouse button and drag the white square where ever you want it to go. This will deturmine how big your program will be. See the picture below for more help.

    --- Form colour

Your form colour is the colour that you want to use for your MAIN background. You can choose from a vareity of colours which consist of:

To choose your background by clicking on your form, then going across to "Properties". Next, click "Alphabetic" and scroll down the list untill you find a box called "Back Colour" (see below)

Select the colour that you would like to be your MAIN background colour and it should change.

    --- Form Layout

Form layout is how your form is going to look in terms of how all the different components are set out.
