    I LOST SOUND, 500k REWARD

Thanks to everyone who helped, unfortunately for you guys my cousin figured it out in the end. pieroxmysox, please see my last post on here, you were the most helpful.

DON'T YOU DARE POST SAYING SOMETHING LIKE 'TURN UP THE VOLUME' OR SOMETHING. IF THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE THINKING THIS PROBLEM IS WAY OVER YOUR HEAD, IF THAT'S THE CASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

Today I lost sound on my computer. I'm quite angry/frustrated and also rich enough that I'll give 500k to whoever can figure this out for me. I'll try to put down as much as I can remember.

To start with, I'm running on Windows XP Media Edition.

Today I was trying to clean up a bunch of junk on my computer. I was deleting folders that I didn't know what they were (or seemed unnecessary), and empty folders out of my program files folder. Well, I cleaned out a bunch of crap and I think somewhere along the line I uninstalled my sound device somehow. I've tried a couple things:

    1) Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore > Restore my computer to an earlier time > Clicking yesterday as an option, when I do this it shows:

    2) Inserting my System Recovery Disk that came with my computer. I don't really like using this because when I ran one of these system restores and it restarted, this disk was in and I almost re-installed Windows XP, probably losing everything on my computer.

Something else you might find interesting is when I try to open audio files in Windows Media Player, it shows this message:

Also, when I go to control panel and try to open up the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' this is the first thing I see:

    This picture was requested:

So, as you can see, the problem is that I accidentally uninstalled my audio device. This may have happened when I restarted my computer once. Something weird that I hadn't seen appeared in that bar of icons in the bottom right of the screen. I can't remember the name, it was like 'Sound Effects something' or something. I didn't think it was anything important so I got rid of it by exiting or maybe uninstalling it. I don't know though...

I think that's everything I can think of. If you maybe know how to solve this then post here with your contact details and I will meet up with you on RS and pay you.

    Thanks.

    LOL NICE ONE R TARD....jk

Does your sound work in Safe Mode?

What kind of computer do you have, or more preferably what is your motherboard's model.

Also one more thing I want you to try is going to start-run- and type in "dxdiag" without the quotes in that box and click on the sound tab. Take a screenshot of that for me.

You killed the Dll needed for your audio driver apparently.

    What is your computer's model/manufacturer.

edit: Do you know also if you have a different sound card included than the one in your computer?

If you bought it custom, you'd know

If you customized it like on Dell.com it would be the soundblaster, or if you remember reading the words Creative Zen.

You could always try rerolling the drivers.

Go to: My Computer>Right Click>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Then look for your sound card there should be an exclamation mark with yellow around it.>Right Click on the driver>Driver>Reroll Drivers.

    Worth a try.

If you don't have that "Alien ID" card or whatever, you're probably going to have to use that disk.

In all likelyhood they made it so that it can be either an install or repair disk. In this case you want to select the repair function.

Its because you don't have faulty drivers, you have nonexistent ones. (and Windows doesn't even detect the hardware)

Thats why there is nothing yellow, and that method won't work.

    Pieroxmysox,

I actually figured this out an easier way (actually my cousin did by remotely controlling my computer). We/he somehow got to here:

After that it's Driver > Roll back driver > Update driver.

That did the trick for me. However, for being so helpful, I will give you 100k. Just send me a private message or something with your RSN. I can add you and meet up. Later guys.

    >_>

    I assumed you went there.

And it's ok I don't play RS anymore.

Hmm..I find it odd that Dxdiag recognizes nothing on your sound card, yet Windows still does.

When I was trying to reinstall a network card on one of my computers, when I had nothing installed, and it detected nothing it showed nothing on Windows. (I had to take it out and put it back in, it was a PCI card).
