Ex-Staff Usergroup or HOF

Typically ex-staff have graphic usernames, so I didn't notice that they don't have their user group.

In my opinion, ex-moderators should have an official user group with a color. It would be a nice perk to display their dedication to the community, instead of being given just a mini-rank that isn't apparently in the user list at the bottom of the forum.

It is not a necessary privilege, but in my previous experiences with these type of communities is a nice gesture. They have already earned their respect by that point, but it is a shame to have their names forgotten or unknown to new members.

Just noticed that ex-staff are considered non-staff and this top suggestion would most likely be declined due to the "No Colored names for non-staff" rule in this section. I would still like it to be considered, or just ignore this section and go read below idea.

Hall of Fame
An alternative suggestion would be to have a "Hall of Fame" link that displays ex-moderators, their contribution to the community, a biography, and time of service.

Sythe has been around a long time, and it has had a lot of staff. To have a remembrance of them, this could be a version of the "Hall of Fame" feature that a previous died off community called "Impossible Creatures Planet" had in place.

The Members & Hall of Fame is for the CDT and event winners, correct?

I'm trying to suggest a method of appreciating each of them, not just list their names down a page.

Example:

Name: Dunworry
(Image?)
Staff Titles: Market Mod, Official Middleman, Runescape mod
Contributions: Declining Ritysayo's suggestions.
Biography: Grew up in BurnRitysSuggestionThreadDownVille and went to college for slaying shit suggestions.
Etc.

 

I don't think it'd be possible to get that for all the past staff. Moving forward, having more than just a name is date may create issues in regards to thread length, and practicality for users to actually read.

 

I agree, it would be lengthy in a thread and nearly impossible for users to read.

In previous experiences, the Hall of Fame is created as a web page. I was thinking about making it a part of the user center or have it hyperlinked in a location for people to read about ex-staff if they want. If individuals in the CDT or volunteers wanted to compile together slowly a list of criteria for each staff member, it would be a method of appreciation.

If it is organized and a well thought-out plan, it wouldn't be difficult for people to read on a web page ( or multiple pages ).

It would need to be approved by the administrators of course, but I was hoping members of the community would be willing to support the idea.

To compile the list of ex-staff would take time, but I'm sure the ones still active would be willing to send a self-filled out template to the person building the page. It would take time, but who says that we need a fully completed list immediately.

 

If it's for the user-center, that means only Matthew can update it. While I like the sound of it, the practicality is that it would be outdated for long stretches of time =\

 

Oooo. I wasn't aware that only Matthew edits the user center. It could just be a link at the bottom of the page. I wasn't focused on the UC. I just thought it would be a good placement.

It wouldn't have to be updated daily or on a case-by-case basis either. Once a month or occasionally when a large list is composed it could be updated. Eventually, it would rarely be updated, only when someone retires which isn't too often.

Maybe this would be too much work? Although, if it is compiled using volunteers; it wouldn't be hurting anything.

 

I don't think it's a concern of too much work, rather a concern of updating it. Take a look at the list of donors in the Donor Lounge. There are plenty of names on there of users who are banned, some names are on there twice, some are entirely absent. It's just something that with time becomes outdated and looks silly being outdated, yet few want to put the hours of backed-up work in so that it becomes once again up-to-date

 

If this is something richard/matthew really wants then they would probably attach some kind of CMS to make it easy to update. I doubt it's something they want to spend time on.

 

Way too much time that no-one will want to update. I struggle to get around to updating the Donor list. I'm just trying to be realistic, it's a very nice idea, but not worth the amount of time that'd have to be put into it.

 

Staff do not step down often. Updating shouldn't be a concern. The original list would take a good amount of time to build, but you would only update it every few months. We're talking about staff retirements or people that have made substantial contributions to the community.

People wouldn't be added every other day like the donor list, nor would there be even close to the amount of individuals that are already on that list.

This concept is something I've seen in past communities that seemed respectful in my eyes. Newcomers were intrigued about the site's history and learned people that they never met.

The reason this idea triggered into my head was after I seen how many people didn't know about Ryan. He stepped down from one of the highest positions on Sythe, as a global, and there were so many people that never even heard of him.

Instead of throwing names in a list of ex-staff, a displayment of tribute seems thoughtful. Sure, it would take some time to create, but what's the rush? The website has been running strong for over a decade. It isn't going anywhere.

 

It's nice on paper, i just don't see it being officially endorsed.

You're very welcome to ahead and create something like this in the Community General section if you like yourself.

 

I don't want to speak for everyone, but I don't think anyone's really worried about it. Appreciate the concern, but it's just not a huge deal.

I've always gone around wondering what that ex-Staff did for the community. Someone like FireZ for instance, ex-admin ban hammer magnificent, back to global moderating. You only hear about these things in staff promotions/changes and word of mouth down in Spam Forum really.. I want to know what happened previously in Big Richs' history.

@Ritysayo it seems too much effort for the staff to endorse time into. I definitely suggest like Brendan said creating one in Feedback (for staff) or Community section.. really all you need to do is check the history of Sythe promotions threads; sythe quarterly/monthly/ news. And all the voting related best mod etc etc. Get it stickied. I reckon anyone with a little bit of passion would get this done easily. If you do decide to and want any help putting it togather message me we could easily make a few threads for each ex-staff asking for peoples input, it shouldn't take longer then five minutes for staff or ex/ to put some input either. And it could remain on a thread. Simple have the list of ex staff and have spoilers devoting their history.

Right, but as I literally just said I don't care. So you're going to make me and/or other staff take time out of their day to write about "what i've done" on this website for your viewing pleasure? If you're so interested google it yourself, it's somewhere on the site. If staff members care they can and usually write up a list of their "achievements" around here, and it should be in their MTS page. You'll find that it's pretty uncommon because we simply can't be fucking bothered.

Exactly. The list can be compiled with or without you; an offer would be made to individuals on the list to see if they're interested in contributing achievements they would be interested in sharing. No one is trying to force your hand or beg you for a description. Sonia wasn't making a point that you should care, but that she/he cares and would be interested in seeing someone do this. Sonia was responding to your comment of "I don't think anyone's really worried about it".

 

Right, but if it's not us writing it up it will be someone else. Someone else "non-staff" cannot POSSIBLY know the length of someone's achievements, as you don't have access to the sections or staff lounge. Meaning even if you'd write up to the best of your ability, we'd have to go and fix it, which takes time.

 

While it is a nice gesture, this isn't something that would really benefit anyone. If you're interested in someones biography/achievements, you can always look at their thread posts and see if they have an Introduction thread where you can find out more about them.
