Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

You are the third person to tell me they are a complete genius in the past two months. It is impressive that I keep running into you people/

Yes. Welcome to reality. The world has humans, and as long as the human race lives, we will need to protect ourselves by a government structure and military presence. Your emotions are not going to stop other countries from having soldiers.

I am mocking your lack of acknowledgment of history. I am using a visual representation to help educate you on the possibilities of life without our military intact.

You are trying to say because a few people have lost their freedom due to unfortunate circumstances beyond our current control, that means everyone in our nation should lose his or her freedom?

Are you trying to say that we should kill everyone in North Korea to bring that guy back? Isn't that what you are against?

If soldiers are the number 1 cause of unnatural human death in the history of humankind, then what is protecting the United States citizens from other nations and their soldiers? Are your emotions going to protect us from them? Your hatred is directed at the innocent.

Hell, you just linked me to a CNN web page. You do realize that CNN has been trying to push Hilary Clinton into office by pressing biased segments on to uneducated viewers like yourself? You are against the government and military, but you have no problem reading reports from corrupt news corporations.

That would be ideal. I do not disagree with that concept. The problem is that you are an idealist instead of a realist. It is impossible to solve human hatred by removing soldiers. Soldiers are created because of hatred, not the other way around.

You have a job working in a country, under the government of the United States, and their economic structure which is built on our military accomplishments.

It is nice to imagine the world without taxes. Without a government. Oh wait, humans have already lived through that. Those were the hardest times in human history without any technological advances OR....wait for it.....PROTECTION.

Imagine you are in a sword fight. You are swinging your sword at them, and they are swinging their sword back at you. All of the sudden, using your logic, you decide to drop your sword. Oh, yes! Now he will not cut me down! We will hug each other and build the world together that doesn't have taxes; everyone is free to do anything he or she want, there are no prisons, there are no rules.

No. Wake the fuck up. That fucker is going to slay your ass like you are about to shit out a black visage.

They are paid to survive and become trained to give our nation "self defense". You pretend that there are not threats in the world.

What gives you the right to own land?

Oh wow. You used red, bold and underlined font to say "FUCK OUT." Your perspective is so much clearer now. You obviously wrecked me, and I should just walk away from the debate. Those signs are just too clear that I have been mentally destroyed. *Slow claps*

Trading with one another means that we have something they want. What happens when they decide to TAKE it instead of giving something for it?

Interesting. You were trying to explain economics to me, yet don't understand how it is distributed on a national level. Maybe you should study it a bit more.

No. You are not obligated to anything. You take what life has in store for you when you entered this world. Luckily, you were born in a 1st world nation with protection. Unlike millions of people who were born into this world just to suffer a cruel fate.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

We just want to pour something into your empty vessel.

Fixed. You are saying the threat of soldiers must be defeated with soldiers.

Again, you are saying that soldiers must be used to defend against the horrible murderous hordes of soldiers who would kill us and tax our freedom.

Our military is intact and North Korea just took this American as their slave. This is objective evidence that completely destroys your claim that the military keeps North Korea from taking slaves.

No, you said that the military would keep this guy from becoming a slave. I proved you to be objectively wrong.

The United States spends the most on its military than any other nation. Are you implying that because I live in the United States, I haven't been forced to pay for soldiers, or that I can't be forced to fight wars for politicians?

So are you saying you don't believe CNN that North Korea enslaved this American? Way to desert your countrymen.

I'm glad we are on the same page here at least that peace is preferable to war.

No, I made tens of thousands of dollars on SYTHE'S ECONOMY, which isn't built on any bullets.

Those times were the highest standard of living increase in human history. It was called the Industrial Revolution, and it lifted billions of people out of poverty. Then it was followed by socialism in the 20th century which killed over 200 million people.

Compare this to the squalor OF GOVERNMENT LIFE under Islamic Caliphates and Feudal Kings. THOSE were the hardest times in human history.

No, I am against people hiring armies of people to get swords and kill people for their resources and slaves. If someone is attacking me with a sword, I'll use my sword to kill him. I have nothing against swords.

You haven't listed any threats that weren't soldiers.

Putting a house on it and a fence around it.

I take this to mean that you finally realized that rapes still occur even though there is a military. Try not to sound so conceited when you abandon your idiotic claim that the military keeps me or anyone else from being raped on any given day.

    You shoot them.

The government does not give me the freedom to make money if they take a cut of everything I buy, everything I sell, everything I own, how much I can pay employees, who I can hire, who I can sell to.

I have the freedom to trade however I wish. The government does not GIVE that freedom to me, the government can ONLY RESTRICT THAT FREEDOM.

I'm not protected from soldiers, soldiers steal more from Americans than any other person currently, at a rate of $2,000/year.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

The only thing you are pouring is down syndrome. I do not believe you are achieving a Mensa or particularly care. During your previous post, I have already determined you to be much lower than average intelligence.

The fact that many people have a tendency to throw around that they are a genius makes me giggle.

Fixed. You are saying that you must become a soldier to protect yourself from soldiers for being soldiers.

Again, you are not suggesting an alternative method of protecting our people. You keep saying that soldiers are horrible, that they give you no protection. That if you need protection, you will shoot down people yourself and become a soldier. That does not even make any sense. Your logic is beyond flawed. You are just rambling at this point.

It proves that we are not just throwing our army at countries to forcing them into submission by raping their population and murdering their people. It proves that you are wrong. We do not just jump at bashing in other countries, the government officials we elected are trying to find peaceful resolutions before using the last resort of force. Our military is used for protection. We only become aggressive when we are threatened and cannot solve it peacefully. Your image of massacring millions of people and raping children is delusional.

No, I am saying they are attempting to protect our people, but they are not going to knock out an entire country over one person if there is a possibility for peaceful resolutions.

If you have a solution, let us here it. You keep saying, throw away soldiers. Okay. Let us analyze this situation. He just became forced into slavery; we have no military and no power. How do we solve this issue? Do we ask them nicely to return him? Be realistic.

Do we tell them to drop their military? What if they do not? We just let them march into the United States and butt fuck us? Oh...but wait....you already said the solution to this:

"What? If someone tried to rape me, I would shoot them. "

Aka, you are going to become a soldier and murder someone.

The United States spends the most on its military than any other nation, yet they also spend more money than any other country for international peace research.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures

I am implying that you talk a lot about peace, but then talk about shooting people if they are a threat to you. You are angry at people for protecting you in the same form you would protect yourself, by killing them. They do it so that you do not have to, yet you disrespect them for it.

I am saying that corrupted news corporations report biased situations to stir up public emotions and in most cases leave out important details that are associated with the case.

That is interesting. The technology and internet you are accustom to using so freely is a privilege, yet you act like it is magically at your disposal. There are much third world countries that would love to experience the ability to grow up with access to a computer and capacity to make their lives dramatically better using it.

Unfortunately, they have been at war with each other and don't even have the technology for proper agricultural systems. They are so far behind our major nations that they don't have toilets. If they had the military protection and government structure that most successful countries currently provide, they might have been able to experience the same luxuries that you have been given during your early stages of life.

You believe you worked for all of this money with no assistance from our government or the protection it gives you. When in reality, I stress this word because you seem to be in a fantasy world of your mind, you would not have access to the internet or computer without them.

You keep startling me with your lack of education. You believe that there wasn't a government and taxation during the Industrial Revolution? You brought up that time period, randomly, base on my statement of:

"It is nice to imagine the world without taxes. Without a government. Oh wait, humans have already lived through that."

What on earth gave you the impression that I was speaking about the Industrial Revolution? You keep spilling out non-sense.

    https://www.oxbridgenotes.co.uk/rev...les/taxation-during-the-industrial-revolution

Honorable. You would rather fight to the death with people, than have a shield protecting you from conflict. Wait, is that honorable? More like blood thirsty.

Your comments gives me the impression that you believe soldiers are mystical creatures controlled by magical blood lust instead of human beings?

Isn't that what a soldier does? According to you, soldiers forcefully take the land. I thought you were enlightened and above that type of concept, yet here you say that you "own" land because you put a house and fence on it. What stops another person from coming to "your" land and putting a house on it? Oh wait, does this create a conflict? Are you going to be bloodthirsty and murder him?

    Hypocritical.

You are taking a broad application and trying to narrow it down to specifics.

If someone gets raped and you are not around to stop it, is that your fault? It is just as much YOUR fault as it is the military.

    Murderer.

They give you regulations based on popular beliefs of the people in your nation to keep freedom alive. It isn't a dictatorship; it is called civilization.

You have the freedom to murder everyone in your town, but that does not mean we would allow you to. Over thousands of years, we have determined policies to help humans co-exist with a degree of peace. It is not a perfect system, but it is better than being savages and running around in chaos. Restrictions are only placed to create an environment that allows humans to grow without being worried about waking up to your parents burning in a meadow due to some lunatic pretending to be Annie.

Restrictions are placed to protect the traditional belief in our nation. If you want to be a murderous, rampaging, savage; get out of this country.

    [/QUOTE]
You are delusional if you still believe soldiers do not provide a service of protection.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

Looking through these posts, people who are *Banned* seem to be pro war.

Whereas the majority of people who aren't seem to be anti-war.

Does that speak volumes or is the sample too small?

    Just an observation.... :p

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

I don't believe those have any correlation.

You could say that the majority of people who are banned, in this thread, have low post count.

You could say that the majority of people who are banned, in this thread, wrote short and brief rants without an in-depth explanation.

It is a nice catch, but I don't think that it speaks volumes. Especially when there are a lot of people in this thread that are not banned and support the military.

We are talking about support for the military -- not the wars themselves. Most people want a peaceful resolution before entering a war. It is a last resort method.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

The tendency for non-geniuses to overestimate their abilities makes me weep.

Soldiers are paid. If you shoot someone who breaks into your house, you do not become a soldier. If a woman maces a rapist who attacks her in an alley, she does not become a soldier. Self defense does not make someone a soldier.

You do not become a soldier when you defend yourself against someone trying to kill you.

Okay. Since Obama took office, the United States has bombed:

    -Libya
    -Somalia
    -Yemen
    -Iraq
    -Afghanistan
    -Pakistan
    -Syria

The cost of the Obama/Bush led war has cost $60,000 per US citizen (the most expensive military campaign in human history). It has taken the lives of over 1 million people. Who has been protected, and from what?

No. Does enslaving millions of others to free him from enslavement do more or less for the good of freedom?

    Self defense is not soldiery.

It is a contradiction to allow violence if one values peace. That is what self defense is.

Are US soldiers protecting the million+ dead people in Iraq, dead from their bombs & radioactive weapons? You call that protection?

Those third world countries you reference have even more restrictive governments than mine. The Internet is the only place where the government can't stop me from trading freely, but third world countries where the government is even more powerful cut off the Internet entirely.

Governments do not GIVE me the Internet. THEY CAN ONLY RESTRICT IT.

Governments do not GIVE me the Internet. THEY CAN ONLY RESTRICT IT. I BOUGHT my computer, I BOUGHT my Internet service, then I WORKED for all my money.

The Industrial Revolution was the freest time of economic history. No military-industrial complex. It brought about the greatest achievements in human history. You might not even be aware that there was no income tax until it was WRITTEN INTO THE CONSTITUTION in 1913. Taxes prior to the socialist revolution were exceedingly low. The American revolutionaries fought the British over taxes of less than 5%, where now we suffer from 50% almost across the board.

That's not a source. You just pasted a sample of someone's notes.

Self defense can't be bloodthirsty. It requires someone else to be the attacker.

You keep listing soldiers as all these threats that I am supposed to be protected from, yet you keep saying soldiers protect me.

    This is circular reasoning.

If someone tries to break into my house, yeah I'm going to kill him. He can build his own house. That's called property rights, and self defense.

    No, it's the rapists fault.

You claimed that I would be raped if it wasn't for the military, which is untrue, and a disregard of reason considering the military is the largest committer of rape in human history.

    Self defense isn't murder.

What freedom is being kept alive if the government does not give me the freedom to make money if they take a cut of everything I buy, everything I sell, everything I own, decide how much I can pay employees, who I can hire, who I can sell to?

    That isn't freedom.

Protection from what? I'll reiterate again that all the things you have listed that people must be protected from are SOLDIERS.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

Quit it. You are embarrassing yourself at this point.

You keep explaining how soldiers are murders, yet you repeatedly make gestures that you would murder people for your beliefs or benefit yourself.

    defend

Defend? Protection? You are defending yourself against someone trying to kill you on a small scale. The military is protecting you against many someone's wants to kill you and others on a large scale.

You are just a spoiled man or woman that has grown up in a first world country and continues to spout nonsense that you are somehow too privileged to be affected by hatred in the world.

Let me guess; you are going to tell me jet fuel does not melt steel beams next? I have a pretty nifty response if you attempt to say it.

They refused to acknowledge peaceful interactions and replied with violence that leads to American citizens being killed. We were defensive with them but then became extremely aggressive when world peace was threatened. They were threatening the freedom that you have. Proving my point. Without our military, they could have just bombed us out of existence. Do you pretend that that terrorist would have just left us alone if we did not have a military? Prove it.

No? Answer the question properly. How do we solve this issue? Enlighten me, with your genius mind.

The moment you pick up a weapon to protect your rights, you become a soldier to fight for your beliefs.

Do You value peace by convicting violence?

    Hypocrite.

I call that an aggressive stance to a nation that threatened our freedom. Do we all support 100% of the actions taken in those wars? No. Do the soldiers support 100% of the actions take in those wars? No. Who makes those decisions? It is a combined contribution of the entire nation.

Don't disrespect the people that are trying to protect you because your peers decided to vote for people that decided to take an aggressive stance. Their people threatened our livelihood.

Yes. We get your point. Magical fairies made it possible for you to grow up in a nation with the internet. You were born with the rights of Internet services because you are you.

Forgive me. I keep forgetting that you are delusional.

You bought everything that Santa brought you for Christmas. Do you not understand that technological advancements would not have been made without the current structure our nation upholds?

Living proof of it can be found all around the world.

You continue to evade the original purpose by responding by with random facts that do not contribute to the discussion.

They are university supported documents for sale. Do I need to go find and link you another few documents displaying taxes during that time? Just to prove that your period does not fall under my description?

Self-defense does not require death either. You can setup defense precautions to protect yourself without shooting someone. Getting the idea?

    Not exactly.

You are trying to prove to me that our nation's soldiers do not deserve respect. You're under the impression that without our military, we would still be living in the same circumstance, but without taxes and a surplus economy and freedom. This is not an anime. Hell, even anime are not that unrealistic.

Property rights? You have rights that people in third world countries grow up without? In their eyes you are lucky. In my eyes, you are a spoiled brat that believes privileges are honored upon you by birth and not the structured civilization around you.

I claimed that you had the possibility of being raped by living in a society without a military. You are trying to make a case that the soldiers are murderers for protecting our nation, but would murder someone to protect yourself. You cannot speak to me about contradictions when you continuously contradict yourself in every single one of your responses.

You act as if our military walk down the streets of New York, raping people whenever they please. No.

Rape is a display of human hatred and the disgusting trait that we try to prevent within our society. The government does everything within their power to prevent it, but humans are horrible. We are not debating the fact that rape is wrong, we are debating whether or not the protection of the military should be respected.

    http://www.nsvrc.org/sites/default/...packet_statistics-about-sexual-violence_0.pdf

People are raped. It is a shame, but you can not segregate a particular category of citizens and say that they are all rapist and don't deserve respect. In that case, no one in the human race deserves respect because they are a potential rapist. This is sad perspective to keep.

It is, if you murder someone in defense.

You have the ability to earn money. You have the potential to live a long, healthy, and satisfying life without ever seeing the conflict. The soldiers take your place in the cycle of protection, allowing you to have that freedom rather you having to fight for it every day of your life.

Soldiers are people. People are cruel. Protection from people. I'm not sure how many different ways it needs to be said for you to comprehend it? You think scoring 33 on the reading section of your ACT would have given you the ability to read and comprehend my sentences the first time around, instead of requesting me to reiterate it repeatedly in many different ways.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

Being a British soldier myself, I can tell you that British soldiers aren't respected that much.

But what's wrong with that? Just because i'm a soldier, doesn't mean i deserve any more respect or treatment than any other person. I personally joined the British Army because of the lifestyle. Joining at a young age, I've been able to travel to different countries, i've maintained a healthy & fit lifestyle and i've gained lifelong friendships. I would be lying through my teeth if I said i didn't join the Army to go on tour though.

I actually done quite well at school, leaving with 12 GCSE'S all grade A-C. But i said to myself, no matter how good i done in school, i would still join the Army because its simply something i've always wanted to do. Since joining, i've done pretty well, i've promoted quite early, ahead of my peer group and i'm enjoying it. I'm currently sitting in my apartment, in a sunny country while some of my friends back home are still drinking around each others houses every night, getting pissed and have dead-end jobs - Of course there's the few that have gone to uni and in a few years time will be better off than me!

Im not going to lie, there's so many lads in the Army that shove it in civvy's faces. Bragging about how they're a soldier acting like the whole world owes them something, but the fact is, most of the people that do that are actually the shit soldiers who will leave after their minimal service.

I see that in America, soldiers are treated like gods. All the time i see videos on Facebook of soldiers cutting about in uniform. I hear of soldiers getting their meals for free and getting free drinks because they're so looked up upon.
In England, it's a different story. It's so frowned upon to be seen in your uniform outside of work because firstly, as you may already know, the threat level is the UK is "severe", being seen in uniform can make you, your family and friends a target. Which is fair enough, persec is important. The second reason is simple, if you're seen in uniform outside of work you're more than likely going to end up on a Facebook page with half of the military taking the piss out of you! it's very frowned upon.

To summarise; as a soldier myself, i don't think i deserve any more respect than any normal civvy. I joined the Army because it's what i always wanted, i didn't join because i failed at school and have half a brain cell. If i get slotted or get my legs blown off then there's nobody to blame. I guarantee most of the blokes that have died on kinetic tours recently wanted to be there. In the Infantry, fighting is our "bread and butter" every tom dick & harry wants to get into a firefight. Being in the Army doesn't make you a hero. The heroes are the ones who died in the battles of WW1 & WW2, the ones who actually fought to protect our homeland from foreign enemies.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

You're blowing nobody's argument the fuck out of anything lol. If we didn't have soldiers and one of the strongest militaries in the world, you would be an actual slave. Not one that works in air conditioning going home to air conditioning, eating whatever you want. You would be farming or building. Under extreme conditions. Because if everyone in the us was a slave, there'd be so many why would it matter if you died? People arguing that freedom isn't really a thing in the world because they have to work, or go to school, or whatever really, clearly don't get it... I'm by no means an army brat or suck soldiers dicks, but I can very easily and clearly see why a strong military is extremely important as a super power in the world we live in...

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

I bought my own air conditioning. I buy my own food. The military did not give me air conditioning or food.

    Slaves to who?

Ok, since I clearly don't get it, how is being forced to serve the government under threat of death or imprisonment "freedom"?

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

So what makes you think you'd be a slave, and you won't work in air conditioning, go home to air conditioning, eat whatever you want? There's probably a hundred other countries that directly contradict your argument. How come they aren't slaves, they don't need to have the strongest military in the world, they don't have to get as deeply involved in the middle east?

How many times have the CIA admitted to assisting and encouraging a coup to further their interests? One could only wonder what they haven't admitted to. Being the most powerful force in the world, no one would dare challenge them when they do this. I have yet to understand why it's a common belief by US citizens that this much force is required, any less and the US would be nothing but a shadow of what it currently is. Saddam was a dictator, but there's a lot of other dictators out there as well, in fact the US have attempted planting some of their own in countries (see link). Their reason was Iraq had WMD, it's necessary to overthrow saddam, destroy Iraq, and have hundreds of thousands of innocent lives killed. Iraq did not have WMD. It probably spawned ISIS. Yet I'm baffled how you believe a military presence is still required and how you haven't noticed how big of a fuck up that one example was.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

Since they protect you regardless of some actions of some soldiers.

From what you do and do not know. Of courses some of this relies on blind faith that they are stopping some terrorist attacks, but the threat is clearly there. A quote I read some time back certainly applies: "If you do not stand behind out troops, feel free to stand in front of them."

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

$700 billion per year and piles of corpses on blind faith seems pricey.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

I'm not gonna go into too much detail. I think it's purely because they put their life on the line so that we can live a mostly peaceful and happy life. I wouldn't mind being in the army, but it's not something i would like to do. I know some people actually love it, and i'm sure it comes with perks but its risking your life... is it worth it? All in all it's to show respect, that you appreciate what they do, and that you care about them...

They risk their lifes for the country and it's population, and they also suffer because of the death of friends for all their life, maybe that should answer your question.

I'm an active duty member of United States military currently stationed in Japan (btw the term "soldier" refers to people in the army I'm assuming that you mean troops). I could care less if you come to me and thank me for my service or not. Also I don't understand what you mean by "saluting". Random civilians don't just "salute" me as im walking down the street. The only situation where I would salute is a ceremony or if I'm passing an officer, If a civilian saluted me walking down the street it would be weird.

Why are soldiers treated with so much respect?

I only read through the first page of this topic, and it seems already to have mixed views, those who either salute, or think war is a joke and soldiers are murderers just as much so.

    I'm 10% of gratitude, 5% it's your job .. you choice that route, and 85% hate war;

10% Good Job- I respect what Soldiers do in protecting the country, whether it be through terrorists or the general floods and earthquake disasters. They have a lot of impact in what we can do in order to have a stable life, the safety of our living and that is brave and respectful to some extent. They are brave people, who risk a lot. They help in things where ordinary people cannot, they have the means and strength to be deployed and hold weight and respect for doing so. Such as where the policeforce can't.

5% What/Ever- you choice that life, you wanted to go into it, what ever happens it's on you. I've always had the mentality that, signing up for the Army is just a one way ticket to death. And I don't mean to be offensive or brutal in this ideology I have, but in essence it's the truth that you've decided that route so it's on you.

They may be brave people, but they risk a lot. Their own life. Something like life is a beautiful thing, a beautiful creation and entering yourself in such a situation is the opposite of wanting life. As well as leaving loved ones behind, it's selfish.

Although this is why it's only 5% of myself that thinks this, because there are positives to this (risking their life to save others, intangible things, democracy, freedom, rights of lives, housing and living during floods/hurricanes, country.etc)
Maybe I'm being too selfish in having 5% of me thinking this.

85% Nah- Hate the idea of them having to do that job, to protect, to kill -there are also evidence of neglect with soldiers especially when going into Middle Eastern countries. As a result of seeing many video's with Soldiers being the terrorists themselves, it's disgusting behaviour of cocky men who think their better then the civilians and citizens of the nations they are deployed to.

The mere fact that people have to sign up '' not literally, but with choice'' to the one way ticket to your death route in order to protect people. I mean this is just simply based upon me wanting no war's etc, but in a realistic world it isn't possible.

Yes some Soldiers job is to purely kill, whether their doing that for the purpose of protecting us, I'm iffy on the subject. In retrospect they are still killing, except their allowed to do it. It's the same with the police force for me. As I've read previously they kill people, what is the difference between being a thug that murders someone ruthlessly, and someone killing people to protect. At the end of the day killing is involved and that's the defining factor in 85% of myself thinking I hate it.

Not only that, but sometimes soldiers are deployed unnecessarily and it becomes a joke to risk peoples lives for such reasons. Iraq war. Not only are they risking their own lives, but killing people, a million plus. Unacceptable conduct of allowing people to do this in forms of an Army within war. Again my view on I don't like wars and because of this I find it hard to respect Soldiers and want to salute them or have major respect for them, as in those who are deployed to kill. However I do respect those who aren't deployed to kill in war, but the Soldier's behind the scenes, I.T. or other, because at the end of the day not all Soldiers are just there for war.
