100% disk usage problem [Will pay for working fix]

Hi guys.

I have winows 8.1, and I am having a problem with my laptop. After around 10-15 minutes of being on, the disk usage goes from an average rate to 98/99/100% which causes my laptop to lag, slow down etc etc. I have looked up numerous ways as to why this happens and I cannot find a fix anywhere.

I have disabled superfetch, BITS etc and made the values to 0 as told to on many problem threads around the internet. I have also changed my custom RAM usage to the minimum and maximum (double my RAM) as told to do also. None of these worked.

If somebody has had this problem or knows a fix, please let me know as my laptop works extremely fast and efficiently until 10-15 mins after it is turned on so I know if I can get it fixed I won't need a new one.

-Chrome has been removed, a few places said this is the problem and it wasn't.

I had this problem once and the windows update manager was the problem for me.

 

Which version of Windows are you running? Try going into Settings -> System -> Notifications & Actions and turn off 'Show me tips about Windows'.

I used to have this problem, but I believe this fix worked for me. Also, I would recommend that you take a look at this guide.

Have you run a virus scan? Could be a virus causing issues. Also check the resource monitor tool (All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Resource Monitor".) to see what could be eating away at your disk usage.

I have scanned with antimalware bytes, a few different anti-viruses and ccleaner has even been run, none worked. As for the resource monitor tool, i'm not really sure what i'm looking at or how to interpret what i'm looking at.

I don't use skype anymore unless on my phone and I uninstalled chrome as mentioned on the thread.

 

Open resource monitor, go to the disk usage tab, and it's pretty clear from there. It tells you what programs are open, what are using your disk, and from there you should be able to determine what is causing the slowdown.

 

I have just ended 'explorer.exe' which made my taskbar disappear etc, but made the disk usage go from 95%+ to 1-10% which it should be. Obviously task bars are needed, so do you know what is wrong or how I can fix it without disabling explorer.exe altogether? Pretty sure it is this anyway.

 

You can start explorer.exe back up by opening your task manager, and running a new instance of explorer.exe there.

If it's Explorer, then it sounds like an underlying OS issue. You can try a chkdisk or a system repair, alternatively you could try simply formatting your system and starting fresh as a last resort.

For now, I'd say hitting up the good 'ol Google. See if you can find instances of reported issues similar to yours, where explorer.exe is hogging disk usage, and go from there.

Edit: just re-read your Op. Did you just stop, or actually disable superfetch?

 

Disabled. Also changed the values from 3 to 0 as it said to do on numerous places to stop it from re-enabling on re-boot.

 

I'd suggest you keep digging into the issue, there should be a fix somewhere. We're on the right path.

 

I posted it here in hopes that somebody had a similiar problem because no matter how much i've searched on google, I haven't been able to find a fix that just solves the issue.

I was recommended to re-install windows as a few people had problems with the new windows updates. I have 8.1 atm

 

Personally, I would recommend you go to 10 if you decide to format and reinstall windows.

 

Yeah for sure. I occasionally get a full crash too and in the bottom right corner I get an error message saying 'Display driver stopped responding and has recovered'

 

For that, reinstall your drivers fresh.

Get DisplayDriverUninstaller (DDU) and run a full uninstall with that, reboot, then install your drivers again.

 

I had this issue on an old laptop once, it was Java constantly trying to update itself. Have you tried uninstalling Java and seeing if that fixes the issue?

If it does, you'll need to work on your Java Update settings to stop it, I can't remember exactly what I did, but yeah. Try removing Java and see if it stops.

 

Backup your files and do a fresh install of your OS. It could be for any number of reasons, best to just tackle them all at once
