Getting Scammed

Most of ya'll already know the story so I'll just abridge it: I tried to buy a RS3 Main from a guy named Mats Vagan. In the end, he recovered the account within two days. Got screenshots of the trades so he could falsify information on PayPal and then keep the money he scammed.

The update part: I've tried tweeting @JagexSupport and @JagexWeath, and they replied to other tweets, but never mine. It seems I probably won't be getting my $170 back but I don't want to quit just yet. Any ideas on how I should proceed here?

 

Note: Mats vagan on the hi scores list gained 9 mil exp just this week. He definitely came here intending to scam and probably just wanted the $170 for Treasure Hunter keys.

Jagex won't help you get your account back so all you can do is try to dispute the $170 payment on PayPal.

 

If he has enough proof, he can definitely tweet the evidence to Jagex and have the account perm'd.

 

Certainly possible but that doesn't change his situation.

Jagex won't help you with this situation besides maybe being able to ban the account for being sold which I'm not sure if they would do. Try calling paypal and hope for the best. Good luck and at least you've learned a valuable lesson when buying accounts.

 

Can't Mats Vagan claim that the account got hacked, and the hacker was selling his account, not him? Therefore Jagex would have no certainty that the original owner was indeed account selling?

 

Not unless he thought ahead and made it appear as if he was actually hacked. Jagex can easily tell if it was the real owner selling it or not.

 

I tweeted photos and everything. No response from Mod Weath, not Jagex and I saw that he still earned 10 mil exp this week.

I already opened a dispute with PayPal, and they denied my claim and allowed him to keep the $170. They said to contact the seller, which I did and put in the scamming evidence (He ignored ALL of my messages on Skype for a week straight and even changed his Skype name to Mats Liens), so I doubt PayPal really gave a fuck.

 

He had to turn off the JAG authenticator, so I really doubt it would appear as him actually getting hacked.

 

Update: The support finally tweeted me back! They said they will investigate it.

No they would probably ban the account. Considering it would be against their rules.

@ OP, you opened a dispute on PayPal, but they said no. Have you actively tried calling-PayPal and talking to them.

 

Yes. Called and everything and they said that the account was delivered, but since no duration was agreed on, they would not give me a refund.

 

Can you expand on this? PayPal wants you to specify a duration on when you'd receive the account by in order to issue a refund? I guess this is the classic example of why people don't trust PayPal as buyers, considering how easy it is to chargeback and have it in favour of the seller.

 

I called them and they said that the account WAS RECEIVED, but a duration was not specified with the deal, therefore they won't give me my money back. Pretty sure he just sent in photos of the deal being completed, and even though I showed proof of the account being locked and recovered within two days, they still refused to give me a refund. I kinda knew something was fishy when the membership was still on a monthly payment cycle. What I didn't expect was for him to recover it within two days...
