Coming back to osrs for pking/staking, need advice

I quit RS when EOC came out and now I came back to try it out OSRS. I had a range tank when I quit that I was mainly just staking with (99 range, 95 hp, 99 magic, 82 def).

I started playing again a couple weeks back and I started working on a range tank.
Here are my stats so far:


I want to know though, are range tanks still decent pkers? Would I be able to stake? What kind of staking would I be able to do?

In RS3 before EOC I would do polypore staking and that netted me a lot of cash.. I'd want to stake again.

 

You can still stake, people do range staking with r knives mate although its usually popular amungst the lower levels. If your gonna be pking alot in edge then you may want to consider sticking at 44 defence for a while with void as it is OP at low levels [you only need like 80 something range to smash 1 defence pures, which i would know as im a raging 1 defence pure lol].

Once you've pked for a while at 44 def with void you may not wanna get def up and just get str up instead, rune pures are big stakers at duel arena. If you decide you do wanna get defence there is plenty of 90+ cb tanks in wildy!

 

Do people stake with magic at all? I plan on maxing range and magic at least.

 

I'm pretty sure they do mate, i usually stake in the pure section so i usually only see your average dds/range stakes.

 

I think mage staking is most popular in EOC though.

 

Range tanks are still decent in PVP, but the lack of things like the chaotic crossbow, morrigan's, rigour, etc. means that they won't be as strong as you might remember them being in rs2. I would also think that the majority of people with range tanks play them just as much for the PVM aspect of the game as they do for PVPing, so if your sole interest is in pking with a range-based build, then voiders might be the superior option.

As far as staking goes, I believe that range staking is pretty much only done at the lower levels with pures, and mage boxing is also dead. Almost all non-1 def stakes you're going to find will be whip or dds/whip.

 

People create range tanks when they have an interest in both PKing and PVM. If the defence isn't quested you can't go the berserker route. As for staking, a few people do range staking although it's not as popular as whipping.

 

Tanks still dominate, but as people have said above, you get the best of both worlds with rangers, you have the ability to PVM (Arma and the likes) and also Pk. Tankers are personally my favorite build, Zerkers are my next fav.
