Thoughts on how Jagex catch RL Traders.

This is just my theory on there tracking methods used to catch the people who buy RuneScape Gold from Gold Farming Sites.

    My theory:
They look at the trade variables (what you are trading / receiving), and the person you are doing it with. They would then look at your friends list and see if you knew the person and if you did they would check and see how long they have been on your friends list etc. OR / AND they could check and see how many trades you have done with this person in the past.

From the information jagex would have gathered above they would then come to the conclusion of something like this:
If they person they were trading was giving them 20m for nothing (lending them the cash or giving it to them) and that person appeared on their friends list for sometime AND they have made several trades of this before then it would be quite obvious that these 2 players are friends.
However, if the person didn't appear on their friends list (or has been only for a day or so) AND it is the first trade this person has done with them it will become quite clear that they could well be purchasing mills.

Also, just to clear up the theory of trading beer glasses, and flour pots when buying mills is quite pointless. Because think about if jagex can track whats being traded then they would obviously know what the items are worth etc and trading shit items for so 10m cash just makes it more obvious that you are buying the mills. but that is just my opinion and not proven.

Just afew pointers to you mill buyers / sellers out there who will be buying mills in the future, what i could do it add the person a week before buying the cash, and do afew trades with them. (do legit trades like paying 180k for full rune then the next day trade the rune back for the cash), repeat that over the week and THEN get the cash from them and trade NO items to them. It can also be wise to get the playing selling you the mills to say something like "pay me back next week or whenever you have it spare, ok?" then the buyer says "yer np mate". Just something along those lines. You can also go 1 step further and do this all on a level 3 mule account. and leave the cash on it for another week to see if it gets banned then trade it over to your main.

Anyway, post your thoughts on the matter and on my theory.

Nice theory however it can easily be bypassed by doing a 'pretend' duel. :)

Are you saying that if i made a lvl 3 and traded a mil to and from some of my accounts my accounts would get banned?

Proabably, but he wants to find out how to bypass that stuff.

I just think that your right Covey, but most real world item traders won't listen. They think it takes to long.

Yah it's no worries, fake duels and PK's will still get past. Besides, they only banned 2000 accounts, that is not very much if you think about it.

Dueling, and the mils seller letting you win is almost undetectable. Do you know how many mils switch pockets at that arena?

Well what if you are really rich ingame and your IRL friend just starts playing.

    1. they have only just appeared on your friends list.
    2. They are lvl 3 or so
    3. You are giving them a large amount of money for nothing.

    etc etc..

Even if you just walked up to a random person and gave them say 20M for nothing, i still don't see how they would have enough evidence to ban the account for real life trading.

Yes, kind of what I was thinking. Whenever I MM I always tell them to not trade anything, but some persist, and usually then they get banned. I'm saying, just think of it using common sense. If you are friends, and you are lending him cash, why would he trade you 2 airs and a fire? It only makes you look and proove to Jagex what they thought all along, that you bought the mills/sold them.

I think they are mostly going after the autoers that are selling, not people who stake and sell mills like most of the people on sythe. They track the ips of bot accounts, and track the trades of their mules and mains, and when they ban the bot, they also ban the mains, mules, and the people that they gave mills away for "free" to. Legitimate mains who don't macro but stake to make their mills, or even merchanting them would be safer, won't be affected by the rule 12 attacks. That of course is just my take on it. As others have said before, stake trading is the way to go when buying/selling.

or you could drop the money after the trade to your mule acc. EXIT, with the "x" button, out of your client. go and pick it up on your main. and be on your jolly ass way.

So you are saying you cant give money away for free if you arent their friend. This is not an accurate theory by any means.

    *sigh*
They look at their trade logs. And sometime it appears to be free. Then they look at their command prompt (aka run.bat) and see if they talked or so. But it would be very hard. Because it shows that everything that a person is doing.

What I did when I traded money was pretending like I was talking to my brother.. i don't think i'm banned either.

They look at past trade history though, like how many times you have made suspicious looking trades, etc.

A month ago, I won a contest in my clan and received a mill. I never previously added that person who I got the mill from. Yeah, I added him, we traded, and after a month, neither of us got banned.
