Notice how no one [or mostly no one] chooses a boat. That was always my answer when I was asked this question.

 

If i was stuck on a island and had to take only one thing, i would take a hot girl to pleasure me here and there.

 

I mean, yes a boat. But I think the meaning of the question is what item would you like to have to survive on the island.

I'd bring my knife.

 

Yet that isn't what the question asked, it simply asked what you would bring on an island.

What if the island was only a block of sand, then what? You can't survive anything.
