    tips for lifting heavy weight

I am here to tell you, if you lift heavy routinely, you are prone to accidents.

I'm 18, have been lifting heavy as hell for a while, in hopes to get my gains up. All I've been able to walk away with were; two torn pecs, tendonitis, and a stressed left knee, and at 6'5 knee problems are the last thing a nigga wants to deal with..

The reason I am writing this is because I am currently not able to lift, and won't be for a long ass time, due to me wanting to be a hard ass(on top of just recovering from breaking my hand). Moral of the story, heavy lifting will kill your gains.

Tip : You'll be fine if you do it occasionally, and schedule max days, ( spaced out for at least 3 weeks to a month)

It's also important to remember to leave your ego at the door for those that are new to lifting. Don't try to outlift anybody but yourself. If you're just starting, get a good feel by testing out certain weights until you find some that you're struggling with by the end of your sets.

    Thanks for posting this :)

You can't just go in there like a madman. You have to focus on your form, and know how much your body can handle. Certain people can handle more than you, so don't base your gym experience on what other people are able to accomplish until you get to their level.

Good tips, I see too many people at the gym doing exactly what you've listed. Hope you can get better too!

not sure what you mean by "lifting heavy", i dont ever do any weight that i cant do below 6 reps, (1st set, 12 reps/2nd set, 10 reps/3rd set, 8 reps/4th set, 6 reps) anyone who works out with lower reps is an idiot imo... anyone who does PR's more than once every 2-3 months is an idiot.. i dont get why lifting extremely heavy is a thing... i experienced bicep tendonitis once... wasnt cool breh..

If you have friends or family with gym memberships, definitely work out together. You will get a way better workout if you have someone spot you. And of course, it's also much more enjoyable.

Most starting strength and novice programs revolve around the 5x5 scheme, so no, low reps are not idiotic. In fact, you will see more gains doing a full body 5x5 3x a week than you would with any other routine for a beginner.

Very well said. I think it's easy to assume that people will judge you based on how high you can go. Truth is, nobody cares about anybody else's workout, and you shouldn't care regardless. Exercise for your own benefit.

And besides, most people will do different weigh levels and set numbers during different seasons. It's about your results, not your performance.

Sticking to 5x5 puts you into a more prone position for injury, and don't think it's unlikely, unless youre going for competitive lifting (powerlifting, bodybuilding, etc.) doing anything below 6 reps as a max is idiotic. I'd pass on the extra gains for my health.

Just think about it from a logical point of view , you're putting a massive amount of strain on your body with each repetition eventually your body wears out leading to injury. For example, heavy loading a car wears the car out and eventually it'll give out..

I personally turn that from a negative perspective into a positive use your ego against yourself to work harder. I constantly would tell myself, "man, look at these guys putting in all of that hard work, I'd be a fool not to do the same" while moderating yourself at the same time not to do anything stupid. :p

Everyday my goal is to just feel better, and lift with better form and what comes from that is easier time doing the weight I'm already comfortable with then move up slowly.

this could not be any more accurate, 5x5's are death sentences if not done in moderation and cycled correctly. if you continue on the path of 5x5's every 3 days and also add in even smaller reps as you go, you are pretty much bound to begin to snap your shit up. Trust me, i'm about as broken as the U.S economy

As long as you space out your workouts well, don't overdo yourself, and also do your workouts correctly, it should be good.

    tips for lifting heavy weight

Just be careful, don't try to lift too heavy especially on deadlifts. Someone at my old gym tried to be a hero once and put 5 plates on each side and he collapsed and had to have an operation on his back. He hasn't trained since then and I don't think he ever will, this happened like 3 or 4 years ago.
