Starting from basically zero, what are some ways to trade up?

Doing services for people is a good start, in my opinion.

 

So what would you personally recommend? I am not skillful in 07 or RS3, so I can't do any of the skilling services like I have seen here.

Skilling services don't really require skill as such, its normally a simple and repetitive task thats gain the player xp.

As linked in the comment above, look at the user services section. There are posts that offer free training, create a post like this and members will likely vouch you once you have done the work for free!
