    vouch suggestion #45264

i know the criticism of vouches has been posted before, but i think there should explicit things that shouldn't be vouched for. If someone buys gold off of a person/business, it shouldn't be vouched for. I specifically am referring to someone purchasing a service assuming the buyer is going first / no middleman involved. I've only been on here a short amount of time technically, but to see people with 95% of their vouches as just them buying off a gold site seems fake to me. I get Sythe is meant to be a free market and you shouldn't trust someone on the merit of the quantity of vouches, donor size, etc., but people still do - mostly newbies. I feel like this would prevent numerous of new and old users from being turned away from using Sythe in the future as people will have more quality vouches instead of just quantitative. Even then, if someone were to receive even just a minute amount of vouches from highly trusted members, they can flaunt that as being trusted when there was no trust involved with them at all.

    Example:

User One made a sythe account a few days ago, buys gold off of widely known gold sites and gets 10-15 vouches from different ones. User two is brand new to sythe with no prior knowledge and wishes to sell their gold. User one uses his vouches to persuade user two to trust him (when in fact his vouches were received with no trust at all) and ends up scamming user two for 100m rs3 because someone from Bogla, Divica, Arcus, etc. gave them an unwarranted vouch.

I repeat, what I want isn't some super vague rule on vouching, but something specific like disallowing the vouch of someone who is merely purchasing a service and going first without a Middleman.

At the bare minimum, if you're to vouch for someone who purchases your service, at least have it required to say they the buyer went first without a middleman so if someone were to read it that they know they weren't entrusted with the possible billions of GP first. If you do this already, gold star to you because this prevents possibly new or frequent users from being scammed.

Anyways, say what you think below; if you have any criticisms I'd like to know.

EDIT: Wanted to say that the only reason I mention sites like Arcus and such was that they were the first to pop to mind - not the first ones I think of who does what I'm speaking of. They're used for example sake only as they've become big names in gold selling for Runescape.

The thread title tells me that you're aware of the fact that this has been suggested ten thousand times before. There's nothing new or different in this suggestion compared to others about vouches. Why do you even make another thread.

Pretty sure your post just then classifies as spam..

Well, its been suggested countless times before, and all of them have been rejected. I personally don't see this rule come into play as it is unnecessary.

Do vouches mean you should automatically trust them?

    No.

If you can get persuaded into going first then it's your fault.

I meant that in the way that every other suggestion towards the system of vouches is very vague. majority of them are a just a sentence or two that doesn't explicitly state what they feel needs to be changed, or how it'd effect people.

The point I'm trying to make is that NEW people don't know this. People who are new to Sythe will get scammed by people with false reps, as they have numerous times.

To play devil's advocate, why even have a thread for vouches if they truly are meaningless then? I'm assuming majority of people wouldn't support that either, but that is all I hear whenever an argument about this is brought up. I get you say vouches shouldn't automatically mean you should trust them, but it has become a widely accepted system here on Sythe for trust and I believe there should be more value per vouch.

I understand your intentions with the suggestion are good but all vouches should be left up to interpretation by the Sythe members in regards to the value and significance of the vouches IMO.

Although vouches from gold sellers are weak evidence of a user's trustworthiness, the vouches are still valid and show that the user conducted legitimate transactions and presumably didn't dispute/chargeback their purchases.

Most larger sellers will say something along the lines of "Just bought 15m from us, thanks!" so it's apparent that they weren't actually trusted. It's really up to the other trader to check and see if they deem the vouches that the other user has to be legitimate or not.

I mean it makes sense that only the seller should get the vouch, but it's so far gone to regulate now.

It is the responsibility of parties involved in trades to review the vouches/history of the person they're trading with and determine whether or not they want to make the trade with or without a middleman. We're not here to police every single little trade and vouch.

    Denied.
