Jagex has been sold!!!

Certainly an interesting point... The thing is, the kids aren't what propel runescape, it's them in a few years. Few young kids reach past any notable milestones or buy membership because of their lack of motivation and attention span, but years later return for nostalgia and realize how much more the game has to offer. It's only a matter of time before the nostalgie's drop off and the minimal new influx can't support us.

 

To bring the thread to a more serious and much more realistic note, I am a strong believer of the theory that the player base of Runescape as it stands right now is not children at all, but adults, young adults and late teens aka. the people who played Runescape as a child. This is a serious problem for the future of Runescape because as those players enter college (many already have), get careers and settle down, most will drop Runescape.

To put it quite mildly, most of the low level players in-game are all either alts or returning players. Few are actual 'noobs' and fewer are children. From personal experience in working with hundreds of children as a volunteer, I can vouch that most children don't even know what Runescape is anymore. The new MMO generation is games like LoL and ESO, and even those games are slightly obscure. The playground PC games are now Minecraft, Skylanders, and Steam games. With such massive competition, with many games out there that are genuinely superior to Runescape, and the disappearance of the single most important feature which attracted children to play Runescape which was the web browser support that allowed kids to play at school, we cannot expect the children to be the source of a new generation in Runescape.

 

It's not being owned, the stocks are being shared. Stop spreading false information and creating chaos.

 

it shouldn't effect the game too much too quickly, too much specuation from youtubers etc.

In my opinion, people are overreacting to this quite heavily. I like to see the bright side of this and hope this will promote the game better in China - more players.

But yes, I realize the larger MTX scare.

I'm saying it's propaganda to be saying it's sold. It is in the early stages of dealing; I'm with you that things will go south if they do enter the scene. I'm not sure if we'll see MTX like RS3 but I wouldn't mind Pay 2 Win. A very unpopular opinion I have.

Based on their updates and how they represented it to the community, I refuse to trust Jagex anymore.

The funny thing here is that people act like Jagex is some kind of saint company in comparison. "Oh, if RS is bought it will be ruined forever!"
Newsflash people, they ruined their own game already well enough. You have to be obtusely blind to see things like EoC as anything less than a complete mis-step for Jagex and a company that itself runs its own mass-scale MTX programs should not be preachable as a company with integrity.

 

The company has multiple months to make this deal go through. There is simply not enough details out right now for us to know much. Obviously no company buys something like a MMO if they plan on shutting it down. Also the company looking to buy is only an investment firm, not a developer.

I dont care about Jagex or the future owners. I just feel China wont give 2 fucks about gambling. If my theory is right we should see Commission Staking Clans return.

 

Wouldn't doubt seeing a rise in old botting sites either, and perhaps dicing?

 

Hopefully they will see the benefits of gambling and bring it back to them community.

 

If we are lucky we'll see the rise in gambling again. Nothing would make me happier than being able to host without the worry of being banned for it.

Jagex would probably announce it via the website. You can't trust everything you read on the interwebz.

 

Do you know how restricted gambling is in China? If anything there will be a higher crack down on gambling.
I don't actually think anything will be impacted drastically, they are hoping to invest into the company (not buy it out), they can obviously see lucrative plans for the future keeping the company the way it is, they are a mining company after all they aren't interested in coming into Jagex and riping it limb from limb and changing it. If anything, as a few people have said micro transactions may be on the rise. As it stands already every Wednesday there is a new promotion out, every week there is a new item added to solomons store.

The only thing that may rustle people is they may put micro transactions into OSRS, apart from that I can't see drastic changes for the near future if they do buy shares.
