Trouble with installing new graphics card HELP

OK so I'm having problems installing my new graphics card.

It's an EVGA GEFORCE GTX 750Ti

It all started when I had the brilliant idea to make myself myself a new PC, I purchased a motherboard without any on board GPU. So I needed needed a graphics card, after installing the graphics card installing to my pci-e slot on my new rig it wouldn't display anything from the hdmi or dvi output. So I tried plugging it and my new ssd into my old pc, using the on board video card to be able to install the GPU drivers.

The drivers will not install unless the video card hardware is plugged into the pcie slot, but on my old pc I can not display anything from the on board gpu while the video card is plugged in. So I went into the BIOS, went under chipset, north bridge, GFX config, changed primary video device from NB PCIe slot to IGD, set integrated graphics from auto to force, saved changes shut down, reinstalled the video card, booted up, and same exact problem as before as long as the new video card is plugged in the board won't display anything.

I need to know if there is any way you guys have found to get around this, because I'm getting pissed.

 

So if I read this right, it didn't work on either the old pc or the new one? Could be a DOA card...

What's the wattage on your PSU?

Also, does the card itself have a 6/8 pin power connector on it? If so, did you attach power to it?

Do you have another card you can test? Could be a bad pci-e slot. Is the mobo and/or the gpu new in box? Refurbished? Used?

 

My power supply is 725 watts. Video card is 6 pin, it will not display anything because it needs the drivers which I can not download while it is plugged into anything.

My 120 gb ssd has windows 7 on it and I need a way to get the drivers for the video card onto the hard drive because it needs to be plugged in to be able to download the drivers.

 

Windows has generic drivers pre-installed. Video cards are plug and play with these drivers (however not game ready). Sounds to me like there's something else causing the issues.

When you boot your PC, with monitor connected to the card, do you at least see your POST screen? Or does nothing at all ever display?

Also you didn't answer a couple of of my previous questions, please refer back to my previous post and answer them so I can be of more assistance.

 

The card will not display anything when connected to either motherboard. And yes the video card has the 6 pin power connected to it. The fans on the video card run so I know it's getting power, and everything else from my build powers up, I just can't get it to display anything.

So on the new computer I can not do anything, so far all I've been able to do is download the motherboard disk to my hard drive using my old pc.

I have read that windows automatically comes with these drivers, but do those come automatically with a fresh install, because I haven't updated windows yet. Since my ssd only has the new motherboard drivers.

 

You still haven't answered my question about the card. Is it brand new? Refurbished? Used?

It's possible you got a DOA Card.

Also, yes the generic drivers come default with windows. The fact that you're not even getting a display during POST leads me to believe it's one of three things:

A) Incorrect BIOS setting
B) Disabled PCI-E Lanes/slots on your mobo (There MAY be switches on the board itself to enable/disable this, I would need the model/make of the board to confirm this)
C) DOA Card - Consider returning/exchanging.

Another option would be to see if you can get another GPU to test.

 

Did u connect the cord to the vga/hdmi/dvi on the motherboard or onto the graphics carD?

 

Everything on the new PC except for the RAM is brand new factory sealed straight from the box. I've tried both pcie slots on the new motherboard and the 1 on the old. Since the on board graphics are disabled when the card is plugged in I guess that tells me it knows something is there.

On my new computer it doesn't have on board graphics, so that's the entire reason I have this video card. It just seems that none of the default drivers work with my card so nothing will display when anything is plugged into it. Since the drivers that came woth the card can only be installed while the card is plugged into the pcie slot I did try plugging it into my old motherboard that has on board graphics but as long as the video card is plugged in on board vga does not work and the graphics card still will not display anything.

I just bought another card for about $40 to try out should be here in the next couple days.

 

Can you please stop skipping over my questions and answering only part of them? You're making it very difficult to help you troubleshoot this when I keep having to ask the same questions multiple times.

 

You avoid asking a direct question. I've answered everything you've asked of me. Your most recent question was on the condition of the card, I responded it is brand new. Like I said, I've answered everything, so if you need something I haven't given you fucking ask for it.

Did you install the small speaker (if one was provided, sometimes they're built into the board, other times you have to attach it) and does your PC beep when you boot it? From the research I've done, this board actually has a high fail/DOA rate.

If it does beep, is it just one short beep, or is it a series of multiple beeps? This is crucial because these beeps are your error codes.

Will continue looking when I have a little time, but for now let me know, do you get a post beep upon booting?

 

Also can you provide me photos of your build, multiple of them, showing me your ram, video card, cpu, etc. Being able to see may allow me to catch something that may have been overlooked.

 

I purchased another video card, plugged it in and it works right off the bat. So I can now get into the motherboard settings, but I'm running into some new problems. I have a brand new 120gb Kingston ssd with a 32 bit version of windows 7 (this is the only disk I have, but I'm looking for a windows 8 key and download for the new OS), and my old computers WD 1 tb hdd running 64 bit Windows 7. If I boot my computer to only the Kingston ssd I get an error to restart the computer and or insert Bootable media and press a key to continue. But when I have both the ssd and the TB hard drive plugged in it brings up a window where I can choose which windows 7 to boot to. Regardless of which one I choose at this point it will go to the very initial loading windows screen with the animation of the 4 lights become the windows logo, but the second the animation starts the screen freezes on it for a second then the computer reboots. This is what I'm stuck on, I can not boot to safe mode since it just restarts after selecting it. Boot to last known good configuration doesn't do anything and I really doubt this ist a problem with both of the hard drives.

I have gotten 5 beeps from the computer shortly after startup since installing the video card. I haven't checked my motherboards specific beep code but 5 beeps seems to mean cpu trouble for most. But if the cpu was shot wouldn't it not boot at all? I can get into the BIOS and fuck with any setting there, it shows the CPU and it's information, and I even took it out checked all the pins really mounted it added new thermal paste and put the fan back on but still getting the same boot crashing problem.

I can take some pictures over the next couple days, but I'll keep fucking with it in the mean time.

 

If the new card works fine, the other one is likely a DOA (dead on arrival) card. Get an RMA authorization from the retailer you purchased it from and get a replacement. If you bought it locally, bring it in for an exchange.

As for the Windows boot, you're probably running into driver issues, and will likely need to do a fresh install of windows.

 

Finally finished everything, still only have a 32 bit Windows 7 on my ssd, so last step is getting a 64 bit OS.but I installed the drivers for the second graphics card then plugged in the original one that I bought into the second pci slot so I could install the driver for it while displaying from #2. And that evga graphics card works fine now that the drivers are installed. Only issue I've found left with my system is my RAM. Since the only old piece in the system is my 16gb of ram I'm not worried that it's crapping since I planned on replacing it after my next paycheck anyway. But it registers the 16gb of installed ram buy only shows less than 3gb as useable. I tried running the system with the checked and unchecked use maximum memory box under system config. But useable ram never went above 3gb. Like I said it's like3-4 years old, but Thanks for the help bro.

 

The usable ram issue is due to the fact you're on 32 bit windows. You HAVE to upgrade to 64bit to make full use of your RAM.

Be warned, this will require you format and install windows fresh. It's not possible to simply "upgrade" from 32bit to 64bit.

 

Gotcha, yeah I installed Windows 8.1 Embedded over my 32 bit Windows 7. At first it was giving me a can't copy to mbr needs gpt error on that ssd but finally got it to work. Installed all the drivers and shit, fucking beautiful. But the only thing that's still going down is on occasion, like maybe 25% of the time when turning the computer on it still gives off those 5 pre boot beeps. But now after shutdown whether I hold the shutdown button or shut down through the OS my fan controller stays lit up and I don't think this comes from the motherboard but instead from the touch screen fan controller, gives off 5 double beeps and just stays on till I flip the power supply switch off.

 

You should go back to 7 or upgrade to 10. 8 is trash yo.
