I think the real problem is that OSRS players are like a damn gang that simply like to talk shit about RS3 and they swarm literally every RS3 post and shitpost whether it be on Reddit, twitter, facebook, etc. Shit's annoying

The game is past its time, people don't enjoy playing a game where you grind for years for little benefit. I started playing in 2002, I played for a few years before realising that the only way to really do well in the game is to either play ten hours per day, or to bot/ buy gold. This ruined it, there were plenty of games I'd rather play WoW/ Guild wars etc that don't require the grinding and are just as fun.

Jagex really missed the boat by trying to stick with Java, no matter how hard they try to update their graphics, it will still look like minecraft compared to other games. Im not graphics whore, but the whole thing looks really bad, not only that but the slow tick rate of the game really messes it up.

The way I see it, unless Jagex has a massive overhaul of runescape e.g. Moving to a new engine, with a faster tick rate and new graphics/ controls it will continue to die. It really seems like the last two years or so has been about a cash grab before the ship sinks, really sad.

I honestly think both games will be around for years to come, as for what jagex has in store for the games I have no idea, but if oldschool didn't bring back those 200k+ active players then i'm not sure what will!

Game is not going to die anytime soon since Jagex is still making millions off membership, spins, bonds etc. As long as it's profitable, Runescape is going to be out there.

More of a pre-eoc/07 player but this new NXT Runescape 3 they debut'd actually looks killer. I'm thinking about playing it.

RS3 is trash in my opinion, I can't stand more than 20 minutes on it.

There has always been speculation/conspiracy theories as to what has been going on. Ex: IVP introduced the big push for MTX/cash-shop items, and the push for EoC to mimic other ability-based games. MTX imo wasn't the nail in the coffin so to speak, EoC is what did it for me. I actually enjoyed it, since I already play other games that utilize abilities. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the fact the overwhelming majority of my friends quit.

OSRS releasing was great, but honestly, there's no way in hell i'm going to relevel when the community isn't how it was, fundamentally the game is different.

I used to enjoy when things were more about loafing around at varrock/house parties, or going to F2P with your noob friends at hill giants.

I have no problem with change, it's only when things change to the point that it really isn't the same game anymore. EoC, and the updates that "made" RS3, is the cause of RS losing what made it an iconic game. Sure, OSRS has it, but it's one of those things where it's "just not the same."

Maybe it's because i'm older now, and the collective mindset is now "no xp waste" rather than "lets go have fun at house parties in dungeons and PK for the lols."

Jagex has ignored some impressive ideas as well. Last year when an Elo based arena system was proposed it made top 10 on RuneLabs, but it was ignored. Mod Pi addressed it, and the consensus among the PvP community was supportive. Yet again, it was ignored. Instead, Jagex focuses on things that they think will bring in new players, PvM/PvE based content that is forgotten and dead within weeks or sometimes days. All the while they invest their development time into abysmally horrid content, DarkScape, which is dead content.

Jagex, at least the RS3 dev team, is beyond disconnected from the community, they're inept.

I mean holy shit, when the CWS revamp went live there was a portal balancing glitch that lasted for like 2 weeks before it was fixed, and guess what? The activity plummeted by the time they fixed it. Sure, CWS isn't entirely dead, but it's a shadow of its former self, and it's pathetic when there are good ideas out there to revive dead communities, or they are just lazy as shit regarding the simple aspects of new content, ie; CWS revamp.

I've played since classic and was one of the first members ever on RS2, this game will die within 10 years as it has slowly. This game used to be very popular, if I ask young kids what Runescape is they go "huh?" because they're all about their new generation of mobile gaming. Unless Runescape goes mobile compatible, I don't see it lasting against the test of time.
