    Question when buying accounts

I've bought plenty of accounts before and luckily from reputable sellers that don't recover them back. But one of my boy's wasn't so lucky. After buying one on PA and changing all the info (Registered email, pass ect.) It still got hacked and recovered.

My question is how does that still happen? Because when you register your email and you want to change your password, jagex will shoot you an email to confirm it. Obviously they must have had additional info they never gave out to recover it. I know that, but how does an account just get swept like that without you knowing?

I ended up giving my main to my friend to make up for it but I still felt bad for convincing him to buy one in the first place..

Any thoughts or ideas to prevent this happening again?

    Question when buying accounts

The original ip address is probably why. As long as the person who sold the account is still on the original ip chances are in his favor on recovering it. That's why I don't buy accounts unless they are from trusted users.

Also PA is a scam now, I think there is even a sticky about don't use it anymore.

    Question when buying accounts

Unfortunately there is no way to ensure that the original owner of an account won't be able to recover it in the future. Even with a registered email and authenticator set up, the OO can just submit a stolen/lost account recovery ticket that allows for submitting of other recovery information in lieu of having access to the registered email (and if it's successful, the authenticator will be disabled automatically). Even in cases where both parties have access to all correct recovery information, the OO will be given back access to the account usually on basis of matching creation ip while Jagex will typically block further appeals from the other person attempting to recover the account. In their own words, they are always looking to "return accounts to their rightful owner," referring to the account creator.

Although, I have heard some stories though about how the OO for an RS3 account was denied successful recovery of his account after it was hacked because the hacker spent a bunch of money on microtransactions and therefore had "invested" more into the account... but this isn't something that's foolproof or even worth trying IMO. The only thing you can do is purchase from a reputable seller who you can trust to not recover the account later down the line, or it might be worth purchasing skilling/questing services on a personal account.

You can send an email or a request to Jagex claiming you lost your email address and they will let you manually appeal. The original owner will always win the recovery process/ battle if there is one in the future.

Also; just to add, if the OO ever bought membership with his Credit/Debit card he can easily recover due to the fact that they email you a receipt with a transaction code which you can then post I your recovery. This is how I recovered my main after being hacked myself back in the day when phishing was lively.

    Question when buying accounts

Buying accounts is a complete crapshoot. I'd use PA for things other than accounts personally (and I have) but there's not a snowballs chance in hell I would go through them when purchasing an account.

99% of their sellers have zero feedback (much like Sythe, mind you), their email response time is laughable (they say a maximum of 5 days between correspondences?), and it took a stickied "Avoid PA at all costs" thread before they wanted to respond.

PA is great for everything besides accounts. There are inherent risks when purchasing an account and not only does PA not lessen those, it increases the number of people who have access to the account details and the fees are usually pretty significant too.
