Anyone here ever play Lord of the Rings Online? I've loved this game for so long, too bad it's been dying over the past few years :\

Here are some screenies to show how beautiful the game is :D

All the pictures are actual in-game screenshots, too. It's crazy how hard the devs worked on this for it to die out :(

Holy crap I almost forgot about this game. I remember playing it back in early 2008 or so. This game was about how good graphics got for games back then. (this game and wow would go hand in hand in graphics)

Yeah it's died a lot since then, I still feel like its graphics are incomparable to WoW, but that's just me.

They had to merge the majority of the servers, but 3-4 servers are still really popping. The PvMP scene was amazing back then, not so much now.

Used to play it. Had no idea it was still alive, I presumed it would of died by now, but I guess not..

Well I mean it's still a good game, just unfortunate they switched publishers and the new one is trying to milk the game with an in-game store :\

What's the endgame raiding content like? The only reason I ever played wow was to finish the tier and race meters. I honestly can't play an mmo without that carrot at the end of the stick, as story games bore me terribly.

I absolutely LOVE WoW, but I must admit for a game as successful as it is, graphics have never been it's strong suit. Like, at all.

The raids at the end are really hard like mechanically and you NEED voice in order to do it. They have a built in voice plugin, but there isn't a ton of plugins like there is for WoW. You really need a good group to progress and pugs usually fail miserably. Once you have the top tier sets for that update, you absolutely smash in PvMP, which is Player vs Monster-Player. Basically you either play a character and level it 1 to max, or you start off at max level as an Orc/Uruk and you can only PvP vs humans/dwarfs etc. in a map. Pretty sweet system, tbh.

If you play wow what difficulty level would you compare it to (assuming you start with a full group of baseline-geared people)? Also what is the average player's ability level? Wow has the absolute worst and best and everything in between, but at least I know i'll be able to find a competent group eventually. My major fear with low pop mmos like this is that I'll be stuck with what I get.

Also pretty much all addons (post threat era/other antiquated mechanics) that are/were used by top end raiders are just qol once you figure out how to play your class.

If you join a really high-pop server, you should be fine. You'll be held back by gear at the start, but once you progress and find a group there are only 1 or 2 people that are clueless. You can always just make your own guild and start from there, though. It doesn't feel low pop as the server is full, there just aren't that many servers.

Is the baseline gear for each tier readily available after cap or do I have to clear old content? If it's anything like wow as long as you know what you're doing and have dungeon gear, then gear shouldn't really hold you back too much

No you don't have to clear old content, but you'll have to grind out weeklys for the current gear. It's like doing heroics until you can raid, basically. You'll learn a lot going from 1 to max. Even if you don't like the story line, you'll definitely appreciate it.

Is the game active enough to pug content? Or do you need to join a clan / Guild dedicated to clearing content?

Depends how far you want to get, you're able to pug most early raids, and you CAN pug everything, but good luck lol.
