Sythe Rule Reform -- which rules do you want gone?

Credit goes to Brendan for writing this up. How's this look to everyone? It's up to a month now, but it's basically staff discretion

 

Sorry, I meant to state in this thread that it ended up being changed. You can see what the final decision was with Dave. I'm pretty happy with the change, but like Dave, I'd love to see if the community agrees.

 

I like the policy. The wording could be better and it would be nice to throw the upper spam exception in there but that's a lot less important than the policy.

If you want the communities input post a thread with a poll with clear options (and make it clear wording isn't what the vote is for) and you will gain a lot more input than here. We've done that for a few things and it works fairly okay if you herd the cats a bit.

 

Based off the discussion thread it seems this is what would be most voted for. How would you personally change the wording SuF? You and I did quite a few rule amendments way back when, so the edits from a seasoned vet would be appreciated

 

A user will be liable for a ban not exceeding one month if, that user posts throughout the forums, with the exception of the upper spam forum, any links, images or other depiction that may reference any porn, whether soft or hardcore, or any gore.

NB: It is to staff discretion as to what may or may not constitute these categories. It is best to deter yourself from posting anything that may be of similar nature in order to prevent punishment.

Isn't it illegal for minors to have access to porn?

Looks good to me. No need to make this constitution worthy, it's simple and clear cut.

 

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I kept typing stuff out and then losing it when I got busy at work. The rules are currently very verbose and rather ridiculous and I prefer to minimize them. We could definitely make things simpler but that's a harder task. I'm happy with the current rule change going into effect so that it gets done.

I don't believe it is in the US.

Don't even consider letting the public change wording on rule changes. It's worse than herding cats and nothing will ever get done. Take into account their feedback but never just let them change the wording. Do that yourself.

Still disagree with the double standard here.

If someone posts my dox, they get banned for a month. If someone posts a staff members, its 6. Either make both 1, 3, or 6 months.

There are plenty of "high profile" members here other than staff that are at risk.


Users will be banned for 1 month for the following:

Disclosure of Others' Personal Information: posting information such as private emails / MSNs, private Skype accounts, Facebook accounts, addresses, phone numbers, private photos, etc. of someone other than yourself without explicit consent of that person will result in up to a 1 month ban regardless of whether or not the information is publicly available.

Users will be banned for 6 months for the following:

Disclosure of personal information relating to a staff member or close IRL acquaintance of a staff member: This includes, but is not limited to, full names, private emails, Skype/Facebook, addresses, phone numbers, private photos, etc
There will be a 6 month Spam Forum ban on top of this
A second offence from the same user will result in a permanent ban.
This rule does not apply to information/photos that the staff have posted publicly on sythe.org about themselves (or reposting of the same provided the original thread still exists.)
For the sake of clarity a close IRL acquaintance is a family member or close IRL friend who is only associated with sythe.org (if at all) through a staff member.

 

Can we make plagiarism and posting porn / gore infractions or one week bans instead of month bans?

Can we get rid of the leaking staff personal info and just use the other rule we have for it, even if that means bumping that rule up to a harsh punishment?

Can we get rid of the off site site rule and just do it on a case by case basis?

 

Agreed across the board here, 2nd one I'd like to know whats considered a harsh punishment though.

 

It's sitting at a month now. The staff version is sitting at 6 months so I'd rather have both be the same rule even if that means we have to bump 1 to 6.

 

Now see ur wanting to go much harsher on leaking personal info from what I understand?

See I personally want to reduce the ban times from leaking info to 6 to 1 for both(or lower), vs moving both to 6.


It's the internet, you can gather any information on anyone from private services for $5-$10(which I've never did btw, but I know a certain forum these services are sold), I think its dumb as hell to ban people for leaking personal information at all, I think 1 month is even extreme, I was thinking lower it to 2 weeks personally vs raising it to 6 months.


If you can acquire the information online for $5-$10, that shouldn't be leaking information lol, whether its a facebook or a picture or a name, its all "public" quote on quote anyway.


I mean the average public person has $5-$10 right? They have access to these others forum's which do these services right? So isn't all that information on the public level anyway?


It's the internet, anything u put on it from a social media account to ur family relations to pictures is PUBLIC.

Just how I view it at least, I think the entire rule could honestly be abolished but I'd be okay if we lowered it to 2 weeks.

 

They all sound good to me.

We are discussing the off-site activities rule already so it should be changing soon.
