Kik/Skype

Does anyone know how Kik compares to Skype as a chat service? Skype has given me nothing but troubles with its vulnerability to hacks and IP resolves. In social circles, everyone I know uses Kik and doesn't use Skype. Although business has mostly shifted to livechats from Skype, most traders use it in some capacity. Will Skype be phased out like MSN eventually for trading here on Sythe?

Bonus: How do you think Skype has performed since they were bought by Microsoft in 2011 (for $8.5 billion)?

I think Skype will stay the mainstream for time to come yet. Pretty much everybody has a skype.

Also, I thought Kik was more of a phone app tbh

 

Kik is cross-platform. I know Skype has been the brand name of messaging in the US for awhile, but it seems to be losing popularity for casual chats among the younger <21 population. The only people I know who use Skype anymore are businesses, and old people.

 

I thought kik was a phone app too. Did it recently come out for computers? Either way I don't see everyone changing.

 

What do <21 kids use? Curse is getting popular, but as far as I'm concerned people are still using Skype as it's the easiest to set-up and use.

 

I think kik is very good for staying anonymous. Many xbox users and various surfers of omegle and chat roulette use it. But you're going to be hard pressed to find many people on here that use it.

 

Looks like I may be mistaken. Works on Windows 10 on mobile and other mobile OS, including tablets.

 

I admit, I've never actually known what Kik was. All I've ever seen it portrayed as by the people in my city is the app younger people use to send nudes.

On topic, though. I could definitely see Skype taking the MSN route. It's performance isn't the greatest compared to what it could be and I only use it as a way to message people instantly. For anything else, I stick to Discord and/or Teamspeak.

 

I use kik on a desktop emulating android with bluestacks.

Microsoft has done terribly. Their outsourced customer support is complete garbage. There are constant issues, and of course IP leaking. MSN was SO FAR superior. I'd love to see sythe adopt an alternative.

 

I stopped using my msn accounts the moment they switched to Outlook. I cant stand the layout or gay features. I also hate skype with a passion. I hope it falls apart and crumbles. I used to use xfire back in the day and always preferred it.

But on a serious note: I think it will take a long time for skype to become less routine + a way better service would need to come out. Problem with that is that most of those new services have a shitty launch or bad marketing/promotion which causes it to fail.
Regarding the am I happy with the changes in Skype itself? Well I disliked the changes at first but I guess I am used to it now. It's just like YouTube, I liked youtube when you could get free custom URL and make your own youtube channel background and still work with star ratings etc. But I guess I have gotten used to that aswell.
