Do you want children?

If you do, why?

I don't.

Don't get me wrong I love, I mean really love children. But the idea of having a child of my own, not being certain of their happiness feels to me like gambling with human life.

Why would I want to bring someone who I should love into a world full of hate and misery? Deliberately procreating life into an obvious shitty existence, seems to me synonymous with sadism.

This train of thought often gets me labeled as selfish.. Am I?

What do you guys think?

I know the world's not perfect, and what I'm about to say is very subjective, but I feel that the good in this world does outweigh the bad.

As someone who's been kicked out of home and essentially homeless, as well as struggling financially through a University degree on my own while paying bills since I was 18, I've never once thought that the bad has outweighed the good.

Back to the original questions, yeah I definitely want kids. I've got a little sister who I love and cherish so much, and I can only imagine a similar feeling if I were to have my own children. I'd only be comfortable to have children if I was married though.

 

The world isn't all shitty though? The best you can do is raise your kids in a happy home. My worst fear would be my kids having chemical imbalances like depression or something like that.

But I'm sure my future boy and girl, Luke and Leia will be fine.

 

In the future? Very possible I'll want a kid or two to fulfill my life. Atm? I can't see myself being a good parent >.<

 

Maybe my view of how the world is is not accurate. I am in a period of struggle, that may be the reason for this line of thought.

That's what concerns me as well. I mean, yeah I can raise my child in a happy home, yeah I can give them anything they want. But will they be truly happy is the question..

As a non parent it's hard to imagine whether you'd be a good one or not. You'll probably do fine.

 

As of now, I don't. That might change in the future though. I wouldn't want to raise a child in this generation.

 

What is it that makes you not want them now? What would have to change for you to want children?

 

Before I had kids, I was pretty immature to the concept. I was selfish, simply put. However, there's no better experience.

The world may be a shitty place, you can lead a happy life in it though. If you're brought into the world and not taught hate, you'll likely not hate anything.

 

That's also true.. I just really don't like taking risks. I would hate for my potential offspring to become criminal, unhappy or whatever. I wouldn't be able to deal. Especially because I already have an urge to fix everyone. Let alone my children.

Aren't you afraid all the time? For how they will turn out? If they'll be happy, etc.

 

I wouldn't use the path your children take as a gamble. I consider it a weight of effort and dedication to their mannerisms, behavior etc.. Of course that doesn't guarantee it. However, you can teach them your morals and hope they make the right decisions.

I don't really fear it at all if I'm being honest, as I'm giving 100% effort and that's all I can do.

 

I can understand where you're coming from but unfortunately I'm still not convinced. I don't rely on hope. I am just a weirdo.

I am so glad you're giving all of yourself to your children; I sincerely hope you and your children will have an amazing life.

Responsibility and my environment. I rather not have them now since I'm still young (19), and my current surrounding environment is not really ideal to raise a child in.

 

I'm 21 now. Perhaps when I'm 30, and almost certainly before I turn 40.

 

Yeah 19 is a bit young to have children.

You know you can break free from a toxic environment, right?

I did it.. and I'm 19 too.

 

In the future most definitely and I'm sure every person can say he/she will want children at some point in there lifetime. I feel as its a part of our human nature.

 

I myself have a little boy who is almost 2 years old and believe me it's the best feeling in the entire world.

Having children make you open your eyes properly and never would you respect anything more than wanting to do best by your children.

 

That's why I said that might change. When I mean environment, I mean the area I reside in. I'd love to raise a family in a more reclusive environment, e.g., the country.

 

I'd love two kids of my own, but that's in the long foreseeable future. I'm only 18 and I don't plan on having the little rascals any time soon.

 

yeah who doesnt? Probably in the far, far future tho.
