Christmas Event + Impact on rares

For anyone who needs help with the christmas event.

    Start

    Falador (White Knights castle)

    * Talk to santa

Head to Varrock, go up stairs of the castle then up the stairs to the east, talk to the anti santa, agree to help him, grab a vial and 4 anti presents off the table. find the four children starting at the general store and working south then east through Varrock, give each child a anti present, when they start to cry use the empty vial on each child, once vial is full; return to anti santa for him to purify the vial and now use it on machine and you will receive a black santa hat.

Return to good santa in Falador, watch cut scene, now you'll near to cheer up the children you made so sad, so grab 4 presents from the table and head back to Varrock giving each child a present. Once complete return to good santa in Falador to claim your white santa hat and other rares.

What impact do you think this will have on the price of rares, I'm interested why so many people are buying party hat sets for 105k ea and crackers for 40k when the game is flooded with them now…

Would like to hear everyone's opinion on it.

The only reason rares are still that expensive is because people are kinda hoping and dreaming. They don't want to do the same mistake they did lots of years ago with the rares in rs3. I myself understand that but rares will NEVER be expensive in osrs, mods even stated it many times.

Yeah, they've explained on their streams that they intend to keep releasing rares so that they'll never become valuable in 07. Not sure why, but that's their decision :p

In regards to people buying them up, it's just hype. A friend of a friend of a friend is a "pro" mercher and told them to buy them lol (usually what you hear).

People want to buy them up now then dump them in 6 months for premiums.

Buy a item when its lowest, sell it when its highest lol, that's like merching 101.

Can't see them rising though since the worlds have been flooded with them?

It won't be a vast increase, but if a lot of players do somehow join over say, a 6 month period, they'll still need to pay to access these rares, so there'll still be a slight demand.

But yeah, Santas statement was completely on point. People are just hoping to get rich quick.

Well, rares aren't that bad of a bad longterm investment and now is the best time to buy them when the market is flooded. Prices will eventually go up because a lot of people will stockpile rares instead of dumping them. There was also that time that phat sets rose to upwards of 1m a few months ago, still don't know what that was about..

I bought a blue partyhat for 119k around 5-6 weeks ago thinking it would be a good investment. I hadn't looked up the chart on it but it appeared to be on a downhill slide in value which put my mind at ease about it. Fastforward to now post-anti-santa and they're selling for 45k-ish. Not a huge loss in the scheme of things but I don't see "rares" ever not having value.

Who in their right mind would buy "Rares" in oldschool runescape? Every year people hoard them right after the Christmas event begins, they buy a couple of thousand, then, around October-November, they get rid of them as soon as possible. Then wait for December, and repeat the process.

these 'rares' will never be expensive you cant tell me you didnt get in on the free ones... every year the mods go to heavy loaded places and spawn millions of these things, they have no intention of keeping them rare, they want them to be worth as much as a spade.

yet people keep buying them from the G.E once the prices stabilize around march. Good way to profit off noobs if you manage to grab a bunch right now in December.

Well I mean there's people tearing through the Xmas event on 20 accounts at once to make a profit, so you're definitely not wrong.

I think a lot of people will make some quick money off flipping them but think they will plummet in price soon and those who don't dump will lose a lot. But will be interesting to see what happens.

A reckon a lot more people than you think will hold onto them. They're not high loss at the moment and people for some reason keep thinking that they'll eventually be worth something.

Some of you might have seen this, but a lot of people have been making insane amounts from following jmods when they spawn rares: http://i.imgur.com/B7eA6aL.png (90m made from someone in 9 hours). There's also some speculation that they're being stockpiled by really rich players planning to drive the price up a few months down the line - I don't doubt that this can happen after seeing how high phats rose over the summer. Even if they only go up a few k, that's still a huge profit margin.

I watched A friend's new video, he made some crazy money from doing the JMods event of them spawning rares. Wish I had the time to do that stuff, better money an hour then I make at work!
