Just curious, what happens to names that are permantly banned - do they become unlocked after a certain amount of time or something?

I know offensive names are blacklisted from obtaining for good. I doubt they would unblock names unless it's for a good reason.

If I remember right, hasn't there been a couple of occasions where Jagex have released a bunch of names due to bans/inactivity/etc? If someone can confirm that, that'd be great.

Yep, it happened about a year ago I believe.

If you get banned the name is lost and cannot be taken as it is still registered to a user. Eventually jagex releases the name back to the public and people can have a go at obtaining it.

I believe they release all the names on inactive people and banned people in their waves to try and clear up their name logs.

    I thought so!

Do you have any more information on the topic? I tried to research around a little bit but can't find anything. Like surely they (Jagex) announced the name dump?

They announced a name release around July, and did batches of released. A-c, D-F, etc. Took a tad over a month to get through the alphabet. They've done two other name releases.

OT: Really depends, tbh. Sometimes names are banned and never re-released. Example: RuneScape, God, Air, etc.
Sometimes they're re-released years later. Sometimes they're instantly given to a friend of a JMod. It really depends on the banreason.
