The US need to follow suit and implement strict firearm regulations to stop this from ever reoccurring. Australia led by example after their first and last mass shooting by regulating gun trade and ownership.

You're deluded if you think that is the answer, what would they do about the hundreds of millions in circulation? About the constitution? Gun control is like immigration, sure you can talk about it till you're blue in the face but the fact is they are already here.

High capacity magazines are illegal in California, the killers had them. Great law. Full auto's are illegal without tons of ATF redtape and fee's yet the killers had them. Criminals don't follow laws, the guns were in fact illegal...

Hearts out to anyone affected.. I almost hope it was daesh, maybe that would be the incentive to step up our initiative with more bombs and boots on the ground. A very troubling time we all live in.

France has very strict gun control and it's worked out really well for them.

One case of a mass terrorist attack vs the approximately 130 mass shootings where 4 or more fatalities have occurred in the US alone this year I don't think we can really compare those two statistics.

    More proof: 2014 statistics.

    https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/s...35xQ_cwcGE2g-n98rRB7SprMFZrnpjhvEUgxNKyK_h_OU

While it doesn't show that the US has the most deaths per 100,000 due to mass shootings that is simply because of the lack of proper response to some of the mass shootings that have occurred in Norway for example where someone killed 67 people in one shooting incident but it does imply that unless that occurs year after year in Norway this is an anomaly whereas in the US it is a trend.

I'm not suggesting gun restriction is the answer but standing passive and not dealing with the issue is not an option.

I do wish it was as simple as that, but the issue in the States is a completely different case to Australia. Considering the fact that it didn't require a change in our constitution, and the fact that our population and amount of guns was much lower it was easier to handle.

It's also still not that difficult to get a gun if you really tried. I mean I can think of a few friends I know who have their firearms license, it's not particularly difficult to get.

Condolences to the deceased though, I sure hope someone can find a solution soon.

I can see both sides. Criminals won't follow gun laws, but in shootings such as these, it takes a professional, tactical squad to breach and take them out. One police officer with a pistol or civilian won't stop automatic weapons.

In a perfect world, I'd take all guns away and turn mine in, but again that won't stop the criminals. Neither can I with my concealed pistol.

Great way of looking at it. The main problem with the US's gun problem now is as many have stated the criminals don't follow the laws. In Canada it's much more difficult to obtain an assault rifle or even a hand gun for that matter thus making a killing spree with a bolt action hunting rifle much less lethal than the fully automatic rifles you guys have access to there.

    Again?

I really wonder what the cause of these people 'acting out' per se is, and going on to decide to shoot people.

I think psychopathy, or atleast partially. There are certain people who simply think differently; there is no way we can justify their actions as they simply feel like they're doing the right thing. The problem is how easy it is for these people to acquire weaponry.

That's the sad thing. I live near(ish) to that area, and people here don't even care much. It happened, you hear about these weekly. People don't really care anymore, it's just commonplace. At least, they don't care until it affects someone close to them.

I'd say it could just as equally be the issue of why people become so unstable or feel the need to commit these atrocities in the first place. The whole "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument.

Except getting guns is something anybody can do, yet being born into psychopathy is something people are born into.
