Which items are considered, "Rare"?

Been out of RS since before they re-made 07rs. Planning on buying an account soon and playing some for shits and giggles.
Obviously partyhats, santas, h'ween masks, etc. were rare back in the day. I see it's no longer that way. What items are considered rare, valuable, and desired nowadays?

Right now it's just the elysian spirit shield (~800M) and some 3rd age items (bow ~900m, longsword ~2b?, wand ~600m). Not sure about those three 3rd age items as there's basically none in the game right now.

So there really aren't any useless (for lack of a better word) items that are worth a lot like, "rares" were back in the day?

 

Yeah, there aren't any discontinued rares and also no plans to reintroduce them in the future (not to mention trying to do so would be impossible as everyone would just try to stockpile them).

 

Exactly. They were released on a massive scale, which people knew to hoard them this time. It took them like 13 or so years to be worth as much as they are in RS3, so it'll take some time. They may eventually be worth something, as long as JaGeX ceases to release more of them

 

Gotcha. Good to know. That's a little dissapointing, but the nature of the beast.

Logically, if any item were to ever end up as valuable as the rares used to be, I would assume it wouldn't be the rares from old years.. Solely because people did stockpile them. Interesting to think about.

 

Fixed the title for you. There are no "rares" so to speak in the game.

 

No rares as you would see in RS3, but just items that are very scarce.

 

As mentioned above, there are no rares. Just rare item drops/clue rewards.

Elysians & 3rd age items being among the rarest.

 

There are not really rares on osrs, there are some items with high value since they are hard to obtain. But nothing to the effect of the RS3 rares.

Also.. while we're on the subject. I noticed they've introduced some new items..
Abyssal daggers, ring of gods, rangers tunic.. things of that nature that weren't in the real 07 rs. Is any of it good? Anything other big differences I should be aware of going into it?

 

Nah, they don't really matter. IMO they aren't balanced enough to be worth the cash.

DDS still better than abyssal dagger.

 

I've been playing OSRS for the majority of this year and even with all the latest updates, it still mostly feels like the same game as it was in 2007, with a few bonus side things to do that are still fun.

Even in the events that things are made that cause disruption, they generally annoy people so much that they get polled/get removed anyway (Take a look at splashing in the Nightmare Zone for example.)

 

A lot of the new rewards from clues are rare. The 3rd age items will always be rare but unfortunately they ruined the rarity of phats and santas which takes off part of the oldschool effect.

 

It would've been cool if they'd kept that old school feel with rares around for sure, but it would've been tough to implement them on a smaller scale into the game without people crying fowl.
