Thank you scammers.

I would just like to take a minute and thank scammers everywhere. Not because of the decisions they make, but because of the lessons they teach. Yes, I am thankful for getting scammed. All of the experiences I have had with scammers and getting scammed have taught me something. It teaches you when to trust people and when not to. How to notice a scam or a chance to get scammed.

I can handle say getting scammed 10m RSGP from some kid on the internet. Why? Because it teaches you a life lesson. It shows you how to be safe with your decisions in many different ways. Better get scammed 10m than get scammed $XXXX in some real life scam situation.

As they say, you learn by failure. Unfortunate in many cases in regards to Sythe, but that's just how it is. I've learned my fair share, hence why I always urge everyone I meet to read the stickies. They'll help you avoid a lot of it.

 

Inb4 OP is so thankful for scammers that he turns into one.

Kidding, obviously. I've gotten scammed too in game, non so far on sythe. Generally speaking, skeptical people will be less likely to get scammed, as they're always skeptical about each and every situation. Glad to say, I'm one of those people.

Back in 2010, one of my closest RS friends scammed me for 5mil that just shows not to trust anyone on the internet.

 

Sucks to hear you got scammed. Glad you're taking it positively.

 

Yeah I take in positives when I get scammed as well. All the money I've made in Runescape are all profit anyways. I can't really be mad at the scammers as much as I get mad at myself falling for their scams.

In fact, I've got scammed 500M RS3 Gold once via PA because I was dumb enough to contact them directly through skype. Anyways, lesson learned, I'll never use PA again.

 

PA meaning playerauctions? How could you have gotten scammed by PA?

They don't require you to contact them via skype. Scams literally don't happen because if the seller doesn't deliver your gold, you get refunded by PA. PA sort of acts like a middleman in gold trading scenarios by keeping the cash until you are delivered the gold, then 3 days later sends the cash to the gold seller.

 

It's all about the silver lining. Really though, sythe has some of the best and the worst people in the world due to the young demographic. Getting scammed can teach you a life lesson and snap you out of your naivety quickly. For me when I joined, it wasn't necessarily the financial loss which annoyed me as much it was more so the fact that I had fallen for a scam which annoyed me the greatest.

 

It definitely hurts your pride realizing you've been outsmarted.

 

Not through the use of PA but when I started out, I relied on the email notifications from PA. Turns out, it was an imposter email.

 

Meh tbh, i just honestly feel bad for the people that have to resort to scamming, and most of them scam 10-100M.. Like if you're that in need of money just get a job lmao.

To be honest I feel bad for them more than they should be banned. I think they need a small busines course.

 

I think this sums it up the best - my first time getting scammed on Runescape wasn't the fact that I just lost however much it was. It was more that I knew the scam, I had read stories about it before, but I still fell for it due to some smooth talking. After that one scam, I've avoided so many others both on RS and Sythe just by taking more caution, thanks to that.

 

First time I was scammed it opened my eyes. Only been scammed once, because after the first scam I am now much more cautious when trading.

 

better to be scammed for 10m than a credit card. (yes. it has happened to family lol)

 

I do have to agree, the amount of times I was scammed / lured / hacked or just plain conned in the time I played this game, as well as black-market trading it taught me some very valuable life lessons for a very small fee. I'm now pretty much in a position where it's very unlikely someone could socially engineer me into a bad decision or trust someone I don't know with valuables and/or information.

I agree to some extent, but that $200 I just recently lost due to an impersonator of a highly regarded user still stings. Awaiting what the bank will say about if I can retrieve the funds or not...
