    Anyone in the US Navy?

Joined the US Navy, always wanted to be in the military since middleschool, Now im finally leaving in a few months. Anyone got any stories? Anything they wanna share. Super excited to go.

Starting as an LS until i get offered a contract for SWCC (special forces).

Signed for 5 years and hoping to have a great 5 years in the military, and possibly more.

If your goal was SWCC then I would have recommended going for that. If you have no medical issues then your recruiter would put you in touch with a NSW recruiter. Someone from NSW will give you the PST and interview you for a bit. If you pass both they'll give you a slot and you ship to boot camp.

You could get a mentor too, http://www.sealswcc.com/navy-seals-find-mentor.html#.VjKjyPmrSUl

If you want to prepare for it, you're better off preparing while being a civilian. Your job comes first now. But you can still start now and continue your training.

Basic advice: Take cold showers only. Swim a lot, run a lot. If you make it through, there's some solid advice on the various forums related to this.

But since you're an LS for now, the best advice I can offer is to get promoted and get your college degree. Use the Northstar Study guide. In those 5 years you can get to e-6 no problem.

Also, if you told your recruiter that you wanted to eventually go for SWCC, I'm honestly baffled why they recommended LS. You have no security clearance and the job doesn't help you prepare for SWCC at all.

I would have recommended a job that has a short 'A' school with security clearance. Or something that would provide training that could be expanded upon in SWCC. Something like MM, EM, GM, MA, or HM.

I picked LS for multiple reasons, Job outside of the US Navy, It does have an A school thats 8 weeks. I wanted LS because i also know other LS's and idk personal opinion. SWCC is something I want to do, but im not heart set on it yet. Obviously its a lot tougher but being an LS is gonna be pretty sweet i'd say.

A school doesn't equate to security clearance. You'll only get a security clearance as an LS if you happen to work with classified mail or volunteer for submarine duty.

I'm not saying it's a bad choice, but it doesn't help you with SWCC. It's essentially a postal employee, which you can get as a job once you're out if you want that. But in my opinion, I'd rather stay in the Navy since after 5 years you'll be able to increase your rating and have a decent income - and in your downtime you can get a college degree for other career possibilities, or even further advancement within the Navy as an officer.

This guy hit it spot on for the most part. Your best bet it to take his advice if you are serious about SWCC.
