How religious are you? Do you think there really is Heaven? And How about Hell?

Hey guys! I'm not really sure where to post this, but hopefully this "General Discussion" is the correct place! :--D

How religious are you? Do you believe in God? How about Satan, do you think that he's real? Or do you believe in Heaven, Nirvana, Jannah or Hell?

Are you a Christian? a Muslim? a Buddhist? an Atheist? or do you even believe in any of the things that I just mentioned?

Tell me what do you personally believe in! :--D

I'm agnostic. I do not believe in hell or a devil but believe there might be a god. We'll never know to the point of death.

 

I'm just normal.

I don't believe or follow any religion and to be quite honest, I'm happy with how my current life is.

About as far agnostic as one could be.

Heaven and Hell seem like very good ideas to get people to do what you want them to do. Yet, both created by the same 'God'. A loving God would not send a soul down to hell to suffer in brutal ways for eternity. That's something a psychopath would conjure. But hey, in the olden days people lacked intelligence ( or were killed for blasphemy ) where as now it's not so common so folk can choose the logical decision.

Meh I'm not religious but understand why people could be and that's fine. Religion is essentially a man made coping mechanism for death and and an answer for things that are out of our hands.

 

I do believe that everything was created by something unimaginable to us. I don't think it was a big bang, but I don't believe in a certain religions god.

 

So you essentially believe in a deist god opposed to the theist god?

That's understandable.

 

I have this view too - not in a specific figure but something out there that's pushing things towards what it wants to happen.

Yeah I believe in God, and am a Christian. I don't go to mass however I do pray before I sleep.

I'm not religious enough to have strong enough faith to devote my entire life to priesthood though.

To me the first most relevant question is whether the universe was created or not. It being created however seems to be contradictory, as anything that might have created the universe, must have had some existence in order to do the creating, which implies the universe already existed to some extent. So then it follows that the universe wasn't created. This seems to be an acceptable account without positing a higher powers existence (It's definitely a non-intuitive account, but the reasoning compels the conclusion).

To me it follows then, where, along the line of the universe's existence must we posit God? The laws that allowed life to exist in Earth might have always existed without requiring a God to set them in motion. Since laws describe how phenomenon act in a given environment, it follows that laws will always exist to some extent. The anthropic principle also applies, since any intelligent life capable of comprehending the sheer improbability, the sheer amount of variables that must be met to give rise to them being able to exist, there were also an equally infinite number of chances. Basically, the lotto winner knows how lucky they are, but if you take a step back, it's highly likely that someone will win the lotto given the number of chances (tickets bought).

Then it moves on to how I ought to live my life, etc, Morality. Again, I don't see the requirement of a higher power for this. Morality must have a standard, and I think that, the correct moral question to ask is What ought I do in this given situation to live a good life. The basic explanation that at every situation you must follow the laws God has ordained seems unnecessary to me, and also too simplistic. Without going into my whole moral paradigm, but if morality is about living a good life, there doesn't seem to be anything special about it. Nothing more special about how do I solve this maze effectively; there is no phenomenon called mazeality, but there still is a way to solve the maze effectively, likewise, certain actions are more conducive to living a 'good life' than not.

Since you mentioned heaven and hell, that is relevant insofar as is it relates to personal identity, since to me personal identity is rooted in our own consciousness, what happens to that after death. It seems to be no more. Unless personal identity takes the non-physical form, or takes a physical form we cannot yet identify, it follows that even if there is a heaven or hell, we can't access it, since we cease to exist upon death.

That's generally my view on the major areas. I don't see a reason to impute anything religious, or any higher power along any step. To me, it just seems to over-complicate things, since if a higher power exists, how far does it's reach and its affect span? Really everything I have argued for flows from my stance in the first paragraph. Yes it is an unattractive conclusion, but lacking a reason to move it, it must therefore remain stationary.

 

Don't believe in God, with that not in heaven nor in hell.

Generally I don't think, theres anything after death.

 

I believe in God but only one God and that's the one we all get taught in School from a young age, I don't believe in Alah etc as it's all nonsense but I'm Catholic and like to pray if i have a big football match coming up or if somebody i love is hurt or stuff like that but i've never actually thought much on the whole hell situation.

I rarely if ever go to Church, but I believe in God.

 

Agnostic, I don't like christian's doctrine, but God and Satan exist I guess.
I don't belive in Heaven or Hell, for me everyone after death goes to same place.
