Keep An Eye On Childs Phone

I'm looking to keep an eye on my sisters phone to make sure she doesn't do anything stupid.

She is going into Secondry School (UK) this september and I just want to know where she is as she will be starting to walk home from school. I also want to know what she sends her friends in texts, snapchat e.t.c. even if she deletes the messages.

I've taken a look at some sites like Teensafe but it is for America and I'm wondering anyone know of any ones for the UK?

That's really disturbing, would you like that done to you?

A better way to go about it may just simply be a GPS locator at most for safety. Or even parental controls.

You should just let her live her life. You're being super paranoid and over-protective. You can't protect her from everything. Also what you want to do sounds pretty creepy lol

Being a big brother has it's responsibilities but if you continue being that over protective it will lead to nowhere good.

If you teach her what to do / what not to do then you don't necessarily need to keep an eye on her. I think if she does have a password on the phone, then most phones can't be "unlocked" without the password. I'm not even sure the police could get into it.

Most 11 / 12 year olds just talk to their friends and watch video on their phones these days anyway. Aside from a GPS tracker, there's not really much need to "spy" on her.

    That's rather over-protective/too creepy.

Simply teach her not to add strange mens numbers, teach her what wrong may come of owning a phone, speak to her about possible bullying/harrassment that may come through school, if you can't speak to your sister about such things and teaching her about stuff etc, then you don't have any rights to be seeing what she does on her phone, bit of privacy and trust can go a long way, also if you don't trust her enough to own a phone for security reasons, then you have issues, not her and the phone.

I think you're doing the right thing. Personally, I started to keep track of my sister not too long ago and it really opened my eyes. It may seem wrong to others, but in all honestly you're protecting your sister at the end of the day. To me it's quite personal as I can't imagine the fact that if I hadn't "snooped", I might not even had a sister today... Assuming you're older and mature, do what you feel is right. However, set some limits and never cross those limits.

This is most reasons why brothers would be so over-protective, and is understandable reason why.

@Op. Can you simply not ask your sister to see her phone, or set up some type of communication with her to enable a understanding between yourselfs, or get your mother to speak to her on the same level, incase she feels excluded from wanting to speak to her brother about such things, if she hasn't got anything to hide she will be ok with showing you her phone, there are other methods to understand each other, but it does look wrong on from our view,

I can understand personally, as my brother always wanted to see my phone when I was younger, other then the fact that he bought me the phone, and it was rather annoying giving him my phone. etc.

Just a tip of advice, being too strict and overlooking on your sister will result in a sneaky younger sibling. She'll find out ways to counter act it which may result in more negative outcomes than positive.

being over protective will lead to her pushing you away. you wouldnt want your parents doing that to you. Instead, try talking to her about it and telling her your experiences, the more open you are, the more likely she will me willing to share stuff with you

The problem is because of peer pressure. I succumbed to it when I started secondary school (11yr+), and ended up smoking for over 10 years, started doing drugs e.t.c. Also we've already had an issue within her current school where someone was messaging kids explicit pictures which ended up getting police involvement e.t.c.

I do understand you're points of view but the main issues I worry about is picture messaging mainly especialy with all this stuff about peoples cloud files being hacked and images being leaked/used for blackmail. I know she won't add any unknown numbers.

Haven't posted on here for a while due to work commitments and only just been able to get back on.

Instead of spying on her, you should teach her values and respect for herself it will go alot further.

Just chat to her about things that many others above have said. A GPS tracker would be a good, non intrusive idea, but I don't think you should go much further than that.

You could just chat with her every once in a while about whatever she spends her time doing and I'm sure that if you don't pressure her she'll be honest in her answers.

Just create a texting routine that if she doesn't respond back in 90 minutes you end up knowing she's in immediate danger.

    Haha that is crazy.

Most of the times, in my environment, friends of me with very strict parents are the friend of me that behave the worst. You shouldn't do it, she wouldn't thank you when she is 18 and finds out, she'll probably hate you.

You should educate your daughter on what is right, and what is not. I understand, as a parent, that you want to protect your daughter and want what is best for her. However, to a certain extent, trust is also involved. You should not put your daughter under 24/7 surveillance, for the simple reason that it is just plain wrong. If you wouldn't like it being done to you, don't do it to your daughter. Simple.

If after you have talked to her about safety etc, and she still disobeys you, have consequences. There is no need to be over protective of your child.

Stalking her every move will probably cause some relationship problems. Honestly it's not like an 11 year old is going to do anything inappropriate or get into a relationship lasting more than a week. Just remind her to look out for suspicious people and private her instagram. Chill.
