A Minecraft Server for Sythe+Friends

Come on in and play on our factions server. Very small community now and we'll be working on some minigames etc. in the coming week!

 

Never played minecraft aside from the single player vanilla version. What is playing on a server like?

 

It's a factions server so it's a lot of fighting against other factions and making alliances. It's a lot more fun with a smaller but healthy sized community so that the game is a little more personal. It's far more dynamic compared to single player especially considering you're going to be sharing your base with other people and working as a team to come out on top.

The way factions works is that each person is assigned 10/10 what's called "power" to claim land for their faction. Factions are groups of people that join together their power to form larger bases that are protected and can work together to fight against other factions or whatever else. Whenever someone dies they lose a little bit of their power, and as a result, so does their faction. Your faction may claim land up to the number of power their faction owns in total but if the faction's power falls below the amount they have already claimed (due to people dying) other people may come and claim some of their land until the number of land they own is within their power limit. This allows for factions to maintain and advance, when playing conservatively, while still adding an element of contention.

Overall it's just a team based survival with some incentives put in to encourage a more dynamic/team oriented playstyle. The server we're hosting the minecraft server on is capable of holding 100+ people but we just haven't had the spark that other sythe servers have had in the past where people invite friends and what not but we hope to see a lot of new members coming in soon.

We're also going to add some minigames in to offer some custom rewards just for fun. Hop on in the server has only been up for a day so you'll be one of the first few to join!

Edit: Since you probably haven't played on a bukkit server it's basically an extension of vanilla minecraft that allows the host to script events and api into the game to allow for things like games/mechanics etc. (like factions). Unlike mods where things are added into the game bukkit servers just change some interractions and allows for users to play using the standard vanilla client.

never played factions but the way you described it does sound fun. I only liked to play hungergames and super smash bros on MC. I'll do more research on this and might try out the server

 

I don't play this anymore but I may stop by for nastalga
